I've just been reminded that this man had one of the best frontside noseslides in skating. The way his front arm is arched afterward is perfect in PACO, same with his fake back tail slides. Incredible dismounts. I was enjoying his sw/ frontside flips as well, I like how they are so light footed looking, they are right in the middle of through the legs and flip catch, just perfect. I Wish I had them like that. Great post. Chocolate has been so legit since day one.

so underrated. or at least overlooked these days. chocolate part is in my personal top five or ten, and he easily has the best overall portfolio of 101 graphics

one of my favourites growing up. way too slept on. the crew shot of the lads skating brings me back to the mid 90's getting high, listening to wu-tang and going skating with my buddies. those were the days

His 101 part is one of my all time faves. I remember thinking that his part was so short and straight to the point and left you wanting more. It definitely added to his mystique. It was interesting to learn from Guy's Epicly Later'd episodes that back in the Powell days, Gabriel (not so much Paulo, Guy or even Rudy) was the one they really wanted. Crazy to think nowadays, but there goes another thing that just adds to his overall dopeness. Some of the best arms in skateboarding.

Gabriel's parts in 101 and Chocolate videos leads us to some hard hitting questions about being a pro then vs. being a pro now. How is it that dude could stay so low profile, throw out an ill li'l part here and there, and we're stalking talking about him. Meanwhile, you've got kids who've been filming every day for years on end who are straight up forgettable.
Maybe it was cuz Gabe always had tight boards on 101. That must've helped.

There was a story that not everybody on Powell was crazy about having "the LA guys" on the team. Then they went to Santa Barbara, and blew everyone away. Good skateboarding, like style, is timeless. That's why people still respect the guy.

One of the greatest mystery men ever.

This is really unrelated but I was thinking all day how I'd love a Rick Ibaseta post...you could go right up to C.R.E.A.M....

@AP That's funny that you mentioned Rick I cause when I first saw Gabriel's video part in Falling Down, I talked to Rick about it and told him I thought his part was crazy short. Rick said he thought it was perfect and that his next video part was probably gonna be like that too. I thought he was trippin' but in hindsight, he had a good point.

Just curious, have you prepared questions for a Gino interview, just in case?

thanks guys.

1up Royce.

Anon2... i never really thought of it that way, but gabe did have the best 101 graphics, didn't he? nice.

K, its just a different time now. In the 90's, certain pros could throw out 3 tricks per year (if that) and people would chalk it up to mystique.

Gabe will always be remembered in addition to his skating because of how he came up in Ban This... the same way we'll always remember Rudy, Paulo and of course Guy.

AP, I'm working on another Rick I post hopefully.

And yes, I've been working on Gino interview questions since 1993. haha.... Though honestly, I think a Gino Guest Post (a la Cardiel) would probably make me shit my pants.

Ban This quartet was the shit!

I, too, was surprised to hear in the Epicly Later'd that Gabe was the best of the four. By the time 92 rolled around, Rudy was my favourite of that foursome.

Wow one of my fav chrome posts!

Ive watched his Paco part far too many times. And his few clips in Mouse are pure gold too, I cant even explain why. Just the humble looking style, trick selection and just general dopeness.

As crazily hyped I am on the Guy "comeback" I always wanted to see more of Gabe. He had a 411vm clip in a La Warehouse around 2003 and Danny Minnick filmed a clip of him, fakie fs crook shuv out. Last stuff ive seen of him.

Was cool to see him in Epicly Latered, I want his own episode!
