chrome ball incident #110: season of the shark

this probably wasn't what you expected to see today and i realize that this one will unfortunately get the gong from some of you*... so be it. Chris Miller has the best style in skateboarding, period. I've barely even dropped in on vert before but there's no mistaking just how amazing dude looks (even to this day) when he's flying around all over the damn place, destroying shit at warp speed. legendary status.

these photos make it awfully difficult to pass by everyday, turning up the nose as I look for that elusive sequence of some other dude doing a tailslide on a bench. i figure that today, i'm gonna indulge myself. that classic pole cam joint up top is easily among my favorite flicks of all time... and i love those cats as well. Miller is too ill.

*for those not feeling this post, click here and make Chris suffer.

Amazing skater. Even tho its different from the normal street skating coverage that you post, i just enjoy anything you post, even this chris miller post, just for the glimpse into the past. And I really do wish I could shred a bowl as gnar as chris.

and that slam, jeebus. That guy is unbreakable.

good post...i have that transworld with pic 2 (mini ramp challenge) as the cover!!! amazing skater...

he was progressive too..i always thought that his old schmitt stixx deck was the first deck to have any nose...it wasnt a kick nose but it spooned up, more than any other deck at that time..

The indy grab with all the blood. Classic.

I had a G&S Chris Miller board and I also had that first one from Schmitt Stix. I think julianjason is right. One of the first boards to have a serious nose.

yeah, julianjason is definitely right, miller's first schmitt stix board was the first one i remember with any sort of substantial nose at all. not much by today's standards but at the time, it seemed quite harsh.

i think people kinda sleep on miller's skating in a way. there's a definite appreciation for him but his name never seems thrown around as easily in the "legends" conversation as it should be, like say cab or lance. i think if miller would've been on powell, it would've been a different story. thank god he didn't though, cause there's no way powell would've let him do his own graphics like g&s and schmitt did. amazing artist, too.

i hear chris's son is now a ripper, too...

Chris Miller is one of my favorites. His art work is great, too.

I saw him 19 years ago when he toured new zealand. the guy was awesome. But that first pic, check his back foot, barely on the board! gotta love that style.

Rectors with Smith re-caps, black markered Jordans, duct tape holding protrusive, cracking Combi-pool coping: you'd have to be a skater to fully appreciate all the nuances. But Grant's shadow really puts this photo over the top, literally.

yeah schmitt was well on top of it back then...i have a thrasher from 89 with a product patrol section by jake phelps (well b4 he was editor) where he talks about the new schmitt series 3 concave that has 4 1/2" 15 degree nose. showing his insight phelps declares that its state of the art and not to be surprised when other companies will be trying to copy it..i guess this was a precurser to the vision double kick mould that rocco would steal for the vallely animal farm deck later that year...

fark i shud start my own bloG!!

oh and there's also a dope andy howell schmitt ad in the same issue where they actually call his deck an s3 double kick concave, schmitt were killing it, and we all know how popular new deal was when they came out...

mite be andy's first ad too

the tuck knee indy grab is a classic pic. notice he's riding a board with indy's and not gullwing trucks. i think in an interview somewhere he said he got flak from gullwing for the photo.
