Good call, Chops.

When people talk about the '90s, it's mostly about SF, Girl, Eastern Exposure, etc. Obviously those were extremely important and enduring, but there was an entire other subset of skating going on that, at least at the time, was just as head-turning: The All Terrain Vehicle guys. The almost died out in the early '90s, and even at their peak in the mid-90s there weren't that many of them: Cardiel, Julien, Shao, AP, Drehobl, Karma and Wade. Probably a couple more, but guys who could hold their own on ANYTHING, and equally well. These are guys who grew up inspired by the generation before them who skated everything: Gonz, Cab, Hosoi, etc. And sadly, only a few of these 90s ATVS are really held up in the same regard today as many of the other "90s" guys are. But their approach to skating inspired another generation who followed that is now changing the way skating different terrains is thought of today. Skating everything is cool again. Without them, there'd be no Elijah Berle, no Raven Tershy, no Emmanuel Guzman, no Ben Raybourne, etc. Especially having been graced with the chance to skate with and know a lot of these ATV guys from the era at hand, it's great to see light shone on them, and to remember how much work they put in to skateboarding. Wade was a beast, and then some.

And let's not forget Grant Taylor...

Yeah. Well said Wyatt. All those dudes you listed would shred the fuck out of anything back then when only handrails or hardflips were on the radar. Not giving a shit about trends. If some alien being, knowing nothing of skating, came to our planet and checked out footage from say Alan Peterson and Gino ianucci who do you think it would be more impressed by? Nothing against Gino, obviously dude is sick as fuck, but all I'm sayin is that it's funny who gets glorified more 15-20yrs later. I dunno, I've always been a 'skate everything' type of person.

Wade Speyer rules! That whole ATV era and adding in Brauch and Senn to Wyatt's list. Great era. Even more so considering the wheels being ridden back then!
It's good to see how they've influenced the modern ATV kids because now they are adding tech to all that and it's just getting out of control.
Good post Chops!

The Gravette of the 1990s.

Wade, and all the others listed here, have always been the people whose 90's video parts you could reissue now with a style update and nobody would know they were from 20+ years ago. That first part from the Thrasher video is so good. Never seen it before.

Thanks Chops...

Speyer on Droors and Powell both seem odd to me! Was always a fan. Killed everything going fast and big!

Would Colin and Danny be considered ATV's? What about McCrank? They can rip on everything. Although not as powerful/gnarly as some of those other guys.

Wyatt I'm adding Jaya Bonderov to your list. Good insights too. I remember the Powell vid Chaos had Wade sporting the OG Droors shirt and baggy jeans. I think he did a kickflip nose manual in that part! I used to have the Speyer eagle logo shirt from Powell. They should reissue that one.

That hair over Gonz's comment on Wade made me scratch my screen.

Well said,Wyatt.

If there were a Skateboard Hall of Fame, that crooks at Hubba would certainly be in there.

And Wyatt, I second all those whose support your comment. Well said.

I would have to add TNT! Trujillo is, in my opinion, one of the best skaters of all time exactly because of the criteria you laid out. Keep the fire burning!

Speyer was always so awesome. i remember coming up and Slayer and skating being my two favorite things. When that Speyer board came out with the crucified skeleton I mowed yards to get it and skated it until there was no tail left. Wow, good times.
