kroam bawl insident #621: no pokeing our jokeing
"We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams."
Figured I'd just go with the king of this shit for this one. Why overthink it?
the Chrome Ball Incident celebrates 3 years with some vintage flicks starring one Dr. Mark Gonzales.
Thanks for all the support out there. Glad to be back.
How ya been?

welcome back E and congrats on 3 years of CBI! Did you get a cake? You gotta have some cake.
fs 180 nose grind on that rail, like, a hundred years ago. Nuts!
method air with the beret is sweet.
Thanks!
Great with som old and rare stuff with Mark. I guess that if you try to cover Marks all media appearances you will have work for the rest of your life.
Happy Birthday CBI. Three years full with top class skating. Cheers for that.
I agree with Keith, you should have some cake.
Mark Gonzales anniversary post is more than approbiate. Dig those old Pics and the fs 180 nosegrind is even more rad when you think about when the pic was shot. Aeons ago!!!!
I´m doing great:Holidays and the weather is nice, so I`ll get the old bones on my board and will have a good afternoon on the streets.
do you have the date of the 180 nose grind shot? any idea if there is video of that? it looks to me like he's riding one of the original vision mgs. that dates it to pre '88 i think. just so ahead of its time.
Like Keith said, congratulations on three years of CBI. Maintaining this blog must take more time than ever now.
The feeble and fs 180 nosegrind shots were way ahead of their time.
Awesome post!!! I remember redrawing that pic of his vision panted feeble in my HS art class.
FS 180 nosegrind that rail is especially insane considering boards didn't even have a nose.
Congrats on 3 years of great content! Appropriate post to celebrate with, Gonz is one of the most stylish and innovative to ever step on a board.
Love how treaked all the launch ramp tricks are. I remember rocking a Jimmy'z beret to be just like Mark. Haha.
Please let us know the date on that 180 nose grind (or maybe 180 switch 50-50 shot early?). To be doing that trick at the point when we were still using copers is blowing my mind.
I wonder if Finish Line will reissue those Vision sweatpants?
Congrats Homie. Who would have thunk it?
Today also marks the 17th Anniversary of NAS "Illmatic" - Released on April 19, 1994
Both will remain classics...
Happy Birthday & long live CBI!
Great way to celebrate!
Here's to another three and beyond!
Thanks for making my day better!
Cheers!
Congratulations on three years of total awesomeness. Much respect and appreciation.
Thank you so much for CBI. Mornings wouldn't be the same with out it.
HBD! 1UP!
Thanks guys. No cake although the Mrs. and I did go out for drinks.
The 180 nosegrind photo is from 1987. Unbelievable.
Also of note, the photo of Gonz doing a feeble is from a contest run at the Ohio Skateout. Check out the caption... I could be wrong but judging by what is written, it doesn't seem like that trick had been named yet.
Classy choice, Chops! In regards to that Ohio Skateout photo, I remember that Mic-E, Julien, Tommy and all those guys would call them "grapefruit" grinds. I remember those guys would already have names for tricks that people weren't really doing yet, or not very many were doing, and they were always different that what people would call them. No Comply's for instance. We always called them "43's" cause that's what those guys called them. Then Natas came out with that No Comply sequence, and the rest is history.
I read a comment somewhere recently (I can't remember where exactly) but these kids were commenting on other people that said Gonz pioneered a lot of switchstance skating. They were like "ever heard of Salman Agah?" I just had to shake my head. If these kids only knew the context of how pretty much everyone that skates these days owes a debt of gratitude to Gonz and how he looked at things and how he continues to see things differently. It's actually kind of sad that these kids don't realize the impact he continues to have to this day. I almost feel like they don't really deserve to skate, you know?
thanks jaycee.
yeah, i actually think that its hard for younger kids to actually comprehend all the things that people like gonz, natas and mullen are responsible for. it almost seems made up that just a few dudes could be able to have such an enormous impact. it really is incredible.
and as much as what salman did for switch skating, he'll be the first person to tell you that he didn't invent it. people like blender, cab, hawk, natas, andy howell, hensley, and dozens more were already toying with it years prior to big sally.

Fucking amazing again... I had every one of these taped to my wall growing up. Don't think my folks were stoked I covered my NFL wallpaper with skate photos but.... Truly changed my life forever.
More than ups to Mark... There are no words...
And to CBI for keeping it alive.
thanks for 3 years of awesome. remember that thrasher photo of the giant jump ramp gap circa 94-ish? gonz ruled ohio skateout, fuck I'm old...
came to the party late but i wanted to say that every time you do a gonz post there's always either a flick i've never seen or one i totally forgot about... so thanks fer fillin in the gaps in my brain. congrats on 3 years. i'll be checkin in every time i get the chance for at least another 3 years. to other: my knees agree. gonz ruled ohio and fuck, we ARE old!
Gonz!!!
Last time he was in Brazil touring with Adidas I had the pleasure to give him a piece of my artwork and share a space at his expostion at Cartel 011 Gallery!
