The last thing I want to do is get into an argument over matters of personal opinion (not to mention the dreaded, nausea-inducing "how can one person's art be better than the next" debate) but after seeing a surprising majority of year-end "best-of" video part lists floating around with Andrew's "Stay Gold" segment conspicuously missing, I just have to ask: am I the only dude out there that thinks this part is simply amazing?
Don't get me wrong, I dig Westgate, Dylan and Austyn as much as the next guy (2010 was pretty incredible, right?) And though I appreciate their skating, I wouldn't exactly consider myself on the whole a big baker/deathwish "fan"... but I thought this part was a no-brainer for at least inclusion on just about every Top 10 list out there.
Did I miss something? Was the Boss just too obvious? Am I just too old and have completely lost touch?
Am I just fucking nuts?

probably due to the lack of surprise.
Lack of surprise? I was expecting Reynolds to have a knees-getting-old-now MOR part with the odd banger (Wallenberg backside flip) so I was totally surprised. Progression, gnar, style and fun; the man's skateboarding is *still* exquisite after all these years.
Video part of the year for me.
Reynolds is in the top 10 best street skaters of all time (in my opinion.) As much as I love his baker 3/the end parts. Stay gold was the perfect Andrew reynolds part.
Maybe one of the best street parts of all time? I know alot of people will say "Lack of suprise/stock tricks", but who cares?
If reynolds DIDN'T do a full cab, or fs flip, i think people would complain. Everyone expects things from pros, but reynolds goes beyond the call and always puts out amazing footage.
drunk monkey cuz we fabo les
i didn't see ALL of the videos that came out in 2010, but i did see 'stay gold' and really, after seeing andrew's part, you didn't have to watch anyone else's. i thought he was washed up, but damn, that part made a jackass out of me. props for sure.
I would love to see his Thrasher SOTY interview. Any plans to post it?
There is no such thing as a full cab.
Was quite surprised by this too! The dude completed skateboarding, again. Oh well, maybe we're just old, as you said.
old and jaded sounds. same here. but why else would I come to this website if I wasn't? anyhow- andrew reynolds started out as some crazy hidden firecracker that went off and exploded and just when you thought the pyrotechnics and color and rage and excitement was over and it was time to go on to the next bottle rocket or whatever it just starts going off again.
immortalized for a f/s flip. loved by every generation
Reynold's part in the Emerica video was amazing, no doubt, but it seemed like a caricature of himself. To me, it just sort of blurred into one massive kickflip/frontside flip/backside heel/backside 360; I like his Baker 3 and Deathwish and hell, his first Emerica part too when he threw some variety into his parts. I'd love to see a few picnic table lines.
I haven't seen Stay Gold or Origins yet.
Stoked on the Boss though for sure. Back in the The End days, I thought he looked disproportionate... like his upper body looked short.
I would also love to read his SOTY interview, I've been wondering what he put out for footage the year he received SOTY. It was before The End was released. Correct?
His Stay Gold part had me seriously rethinking Leo for SOTY. Everything about it worked out great. Reynolds said something in the Skateboard Mag that he wanted every trick to be done during the day, which is kind of crazy.
The Boss is the Boss for a reason. He kills it and is in control. I thought his part was underrated just as Hsu's was(all switch?).
Anyone remember those shitty Airwalks from The Boss' first few pictures here? Worst soles EVER.
i personally think that cab over the rail at pt loma high is still to this day the best cab ever. maybe people have done bigger ones since, but not over a rail like that. and its gotta be like 12 years old by now. i remember when that came out in The End it didn't seem real at first. Kanten's bs flip the long way there was also incredible (plus I got to witness that one first hand)
Reynolds=power. Gordon Eckler thread? Do it
thanks guys.
don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that reynolds was hands-down the video part of the year. I just have a hard time believing there were 10 parts "better" than that one... not that its actually one of my favorites to watch either, but i just feel that you really have to give it to the man.
yeah, dan... i was also expecting a haggard reynolds resorting to lots of bank skating on this go-round too. glad he came though.
and no, there is no such thing as a full cab.
thanks guys. I'll post up reynolds soty interview soon... thinking about doing an all soty interview week at some point.
Thanks alot!
You're def not nuts. Only Reynolds could make a noseslide 270 shuv look good, not to mention it was over a head high drop. Switch heel back tails waist high ledges...Then all his usual stuff done bigger and smoother. Song worked really well with his footage too. This was the part of the year. Also the bonus footage where it shows how he did every trick more then once, and always within 3 tries. Who the fuck else is taking ice baths? enough said.
No, you're not mad, Reynolds DID have the best part of 2010. I hated Westgate's part, couldn't understand all the fuss over it. Who cares, everything you've posted just proves that he's been killing it for years. End of.
You can never forget the BOSS and his patented FS flip. I'm getting older and as I do I'm starting to feel sorry for the young kids right now because of the direction skateboarding is heading.
All I gotta say if you are confused on how good his part was in Stay Gold then you should go watch the Madness section in the bonus stuff. It will give you a good insight on how good he really is and how much better that part is because of natural talent plus hard work. There are a lot of really good skateboarders out there but as far as video parts go its gotta be in the top 10.
every sec was flawles
A full cab is a shoe.
The Boss most definitely has gone above and beyond any expectation I had for sure for the Stay Gold Part. I can understand why people might say 'lack of surprise' because he is doing frontside flips and tricks that are in his comfort zone, but I really think he does that stuff for his fans. I really would like to see a more creative part from him because he has been at the forefront of this kind of competitive level skating for so long that he now needs to make a statement about where things are in skateboarding and where they should be headed. Everybody is just doing stuff that is bigger and gnarlier and it looks less fun. It looks less like the reason I started skateboarding: freedom. Despite the rigid jock like mentality of the part I was still dumbfounded. The younger generation doesn't understand how the human body works past the age of 27 and Reynolds is over 30 now. What he is doing is not just 'good for his age', he's skating the young bucks under the table man! Btw Westgate's part was super sick! He's like a little Barley. Barley will still always be the OG though.
