chrome ball incident #504: slipper skate

figured we were overdue for a little j.lee action.

textbook style. so clean.

the ripley's ad is from the summer of '89. tws had just ran the first photos of a tre flip (on flatground) only one month before... and now Jason was doing them down gaps. headaches ensued.

big up to everybody that came by the party on friday and thanks for all the support out there.

happy birthday peel.

I think it's safe to say Jason Lee is one of the most influential skaters of all time as well. The article with him talking about A Visual Sound was a great little read. I love his thoughts on that, and love how involved he was. That video part is probably my favorite of all time, (excluding a few Gino parts which are in their own category by themselves). But yes, Jason Lee, tre-flip pioneer, excellent b/s flip, and fantastic push to top it all off. P.s. he does a front tail on a ledge towards the end of Visual sound part, and it's probably the best one ever filmed, arms, dismount, etc. For. The. Win.

One of the best tre flips ever. The guy has incredible flair. One of those guys that just oozes style, even in photos of him riding a bike or bowling (as seen on the Stereo Web site).

Dude never really got the credit he deserved for being a pretty good actor (see all Kevin Smith movies), until he did My Name is Earl - which is sad because I hate seeing him do that country accent business.

Then of course he did Alvin and the Chipmunks. So funny explaining to my friends that dude was such a great skater and involved in one of the greatest - if not the greatest - skate videos of all time.

An interesting thought: it's cool to see him and a guy like Spike Jonze who have been able to traverse both the mainstream as well as skate culture while still maintaining a tremendous amount of credibility in both worlds. Some dudes just got it like that.

As usual, great work, Chops.

Best style in the game, hands down. In 2010 that blind sequence still looks fresh, even by today's standards. I know I've seen that done in videos just over the last 5 years.

That sequence of the BS 180 fakie nose wheelie is one of my all time faves. The only other person I've ever seen do anything worthwhile on that was Jovontae when he did that trick frontside. Don't get me wrong, I spent some years skating that spot (it was down the street from Embarco in front of the Subway) but nothing sticks out in my mind other than those two tricks. I think J Lee and Jovontae showed tall skaters how to get it done and not look like some lanky scarecrow while you're doing it. Special mention to BA for holding it down for the tall skaters these days.

And happy birthday Peel! Hope you had a good one!

You are on a SERIOUS roll lately! LOVE the SMA ad w/ Mike V! Keep it going, this blog is gathering up steam bigtime--and thanks to the Skateboard mag for drawing my attention to it all those months ago!

I liked Carroll's frontside 180 to switch 180 at that spot, too.

I always loved that picture of the front board. Love the style. I was always super stoked on those Jason Lee Airwalks too.

Thanks guys.

1up Royce.

Anon1. I hate to say the same stories over and over again on here... but I saw J.Lee at a demo in '90 and he is still the best skater I've ever seen in person.

carbonite, was never into comics. but a friend of mine was and would pick me up extra copies of the issues that included Dirt back in the day. The Master Cluster has always been my favorite shit.

Jaycee, didn't Ed T get some footage on those subway things in Useless Wooden Toys?

Thanks Sammy. That skateboard mag thing was almost 2 years ago. Crazy how time has flown.

thanks guys

I found it crazy that he seemed so under confident in those blind era epicly laterd guy episodes. Then again, I've always liked the more humble sort of skater...

I think I had most of these on my wall or in my locker. One of the sickest styles and trick innovators.

I remember the Muenster Monster cup in 91.(I was an ARMY BRAT) Some friends and I rode the train from Belgium all the way to Germany. We were in AWE seeng cats like J. lee (best tre flips ever) R. johnson, R. Chatman, all those heads that were shaking up skating at the time. And Video Days will forever remain my ALL TIME FAVORITE VIDEO.

Top 3 favourite skaters of all time for me. As far as skating goes, he can do no wrong. I had so many Jason Lee pics on my wall growing up. The Believe it or not one was mind shattering at the time.

Ahhh Jason Lee. Nuff said. Sidenote I love My Name Is Earl ha and all his Kevin Smith roles are super good! Big fan of anything the dude does. Stereos doing well, love that company. Him and Pastras are great people. Him and Spike are perfect examples of how to live and work in both worlds.
