Its not easy to be Thrasher's SOTY and still be underrated... always thought it was weird that dude didn't even get the cover of that issue.
A lot of kids were a bit too cool for the Roof Bat when his "8" part dropped... I personally feel Powell may have put him out there a bit too early, especially with a more classic style as his in the oddball early 90's.... but regardless, Senn's skating matured while the streets eventually figured themselves out and Chris soon found himself as Earl Parker's romantic envy with his contest stunts becoming the stuff of legend.
Straight-up ripper. Respect.

I remember in the mid 90's.. MTV held a street contest.. It was the first contest were I believe the skaters had a lot of imput on the course.. It was ledges and looked like what you would find on a street... Chris skated to Black Flag and went Mach 10... The guy was The bridge between Dressen and Busenitz.. Speed and more speed.. He didn't end up winning the contest, but then the best guy rarely does...
I saw him a couple times in person. That guy just charged. He kind of reminds me of Pat Duffy- he had ability in spades, but didn't really have a... persona, for lack of a better word. Gonz... Hensley... Blender... Muska... Stranger... there are some guys who seemed really distinct in their style, what they're about, etc. Senn kind of seemed like, just some guy... who happened to do gnarly sh_t on a skateboard. You can say, "That other stuff doesn't matter, man!" But it seems like in terms of product sales / popularity, it does.
That backside tailslide pic is in my top 20 favs.
anyone else really feeling the high energy of the recent posts of past toy machine riders. there is so much heart and soul is those layouts. with the growing art career the creative energy gets absorbed by that.
damn i love that era of toy. the pages just pop out of the mag. and there is more of a equal battle graphically between toy rider and ed's insertions
One the most friendly guys on a skateboard you could ever talk to...
I tried to get him on Think and Race wheels in the early 90's but some of the others didnt think he was cool enough...
Its kinda crazy considering everything he did in the early 90's was labeled not cool but today in skateboarding its considered cool....lol...Go figure.....
The bridge between Dressen and Busentiz??????? Dont see it sorry Denis is more of a street skater and Chris is more of a park skater..Yeah they both go fast but thats about the only thing in common...lol..
Im just saying apples to oranges....
@Keith you're thinking of the MTV Sports and Music Festival. Rick Howard skated to pavement. Kareem Campbell skated to Wu-Tang. Someone skated to Bad Brains, I can't remember who tho....
Chris was an awesome addition to the Toy Machine team. Jump off A Building Era TM was pretty fucking sick.
just saw they had a spread in the new chris cole thrasher with probably ever former SOTY except senn. Definitely off the grid and under the radar. He killed San Francisco like no other.
invented the Sheckle Air
CSG... Chris Senn's Girlfriend LOL
Never really been much of a fan of his skating. He pushes like a rabid pit bull.
Chops: it's the "Way of the Blade"
Thanks guys.
Keith, I've seen that contest in a few mags but I have absolutely no recollection of it ever going down.
Excellent point, Coals. Totally agree with you on that one.
pillar, i meant to put another senn/toy ad up but i forgot. get it next time.
what's up Ricks... Race was definitely sick back in the day.... though i'm not sure i ever saw their wheels in person. Kinda weird that Karma got hooked up on there but no senn... since though not exactly the same, one could argue their similarities.
smorales... i wonder if he pissed off phelps at some point or if its purely unintentional?
also true, patrick.
anonymous, you win.
What up Chops??? Like i said up top i tried...Ive never met or spoke to Karma in my life...lol..
Great interview with Huff by the way...Keep up the good work...
"Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fortress..."
Nice!
Saw Senn at Tampa Pro. The one where he wouldn't stop skating even though the MC (Brian?) I can't remember, kept yelling at him to stop but he just kept snaking everyone and doing huge transfers and skating faster than anyone in the contest. During a time when even doing a grab was kind of foreign to us young guys.
After the main contest, we were all on the floor watching the best trick contest. Everyone going for the rail...Senn just sat in a chair in the middle of the screaming crowd. No one gave him any shit for breaking the contest rules that I know of. I can't remember if he won, but he might have. At least he was the fan favorite.
My crew was hyped on Chris for a long time.
