chrome ball incident #300: big time

Since blowing up virtually overnight with that classic tre down Oceanside, Geoff Rowley has gone on to become the gnar standard that has crushed many a soul in its wake.

I've held Geoff in pocket for a minute now as I really thought someone so willing to break himself on the regular deserved a more epic post than usual.

Thanks to everyone out there that has supported chrome ball over the course of its 300 incidents...

300.... I never thought this would've even lasted to 50.

Special thanks to Neil Blender, Andy Jenkins, Epicly Later'd, the Skateboard Mag, Stereo, Given, Rob Sissi, Police Informer and Bobshirt.

And big up to all my regulars, you're what keeps this thing going.

"some blood on the scene". Rowley and Kirchart are an undefinable breed of gnarly and cool.

Here's to your amazing blogitude. past, present and future.

Congratulations. That double set kickflip blew my mind so hard back then. Unfathomably gnar. Was that an Airwalk ad?

That was truly an epic post! Thanks! The "Check Out" and Big Brother Punk Cover were standouts, but that Thrasher cover where he's going HUGE is just incredible---any chance there's a sequence of it anywhere?

Congrats on #300---keep on rockin', this is one of the best blogs on the web!

I'm gonna proove that my memory is still sharp, even after all these years and beers:

That one transworld photo of that BS pop shuvit - you can find video of that in Transworld's "The Dreams of Children" he lands it and says "oh so dodgy."
Background music? "Ballad of John & Yoko" by the Beatles. Why that song? Everyone in that section was English (except for Rune, of course).

is there any chance you have scans of rowleys old transworld interview?
I've been looking for a copy of that for ages!

Congrats on #300! Good choice.

man... how old is that Deathbox checkout??

That first tws cover with the 360 flip... so gnarly.

Flip stormed the scene so hard when they first started.

That 360 flip down the 13-stair on the cover of Transworld was such a big deal back in the day. My friends and I just bugging out on that photo all month. I remember thinking that 360flip was the best trick of all time and that skateboarding had entered a new era of gnarlyness. Indeed it had.

wow, thanks everyone.

smorales, well put. i too think of rowley and kirchart in that same unquantifiably-gnar way.

big up to echo.

hairfarmer, yeah that's from an airwalk ad... i believe it was whatever model they had that boasted rubber manufactured by goodyear tires (quite the marketing ploy)

sammy, i believe there was a sequence in that same issue... email me and i'll send it over. that issue is only from a few years ago but i couldn't resist. fucking insane.

keep up the good work yourself, justin. thanks.

what's up k. i think you've proven yourself to have a better memory than myself... i only remember dyrdek's part (with the primo/buckshot lefonque joint) and john drake's part. i need to try and dig that one up at my mom's house next time i'm home.

johnny, i know the one you're talking about but its in one of the very few issues of transworld from the 90's that I don't have. sorry man. maybe justin or hairfarmer can hook it up...

thanks keith, that checkout is from late '93, though it seems like it should be earlier than that... which raises the question, is that really a one-foot (a pretty big no-no at the time)

me too, oakland pete (one of my favorite names going)

thanks beats, how you been?

i know peel, i'm such a romantic. you're the best.

jrog, what's up with arcade 2? how's that coming along?

thanks again everyone. definitely makes doing this thing a lot easier.

sik post...a lenghthy one deservidly so for some who has been ripping for so long...

i used to buy alot of UK skate mags back in 1991... Skateboard! (original name huh!)and i think the one was called RAD, pretty average mags really, but every issue had a couple of rowley photos that were easily the best in the mag, he was the shit over there and he was like 13 or something, like he looked like a small kid...

props on 300 man, i never commented on a blog in my whole life that i can remember until tonight. however, i've been following your blog for months, and it's given me the motivation to go do some good shit on the board, and it's also given me most of my desktop backgrounds.

keep up the good work

@Chops: Got sidetracked with Bahn but it's coming! Sent some art down to bareback (holler) waiting on some details...4 decks two sizes a piece...maybe a tee or two. Got a first batch board with your name on it...I can have SAD roll a spliff on it if you'd like...
