I have fond memories of this part:

Back when Philly was the East Coast's best kept secret.

You can't deny the impact of the subtle style, blue collar ethic, and heavy switch trick selection at that time. Those 63mm Reasons were unbelievable when everyone else was riding 53mm. Had three sets! Thank chrome!

found that book one yesterday, royce. thought that was the one... still no clue on that skeleton key joint though.

besides the obvious fact that reason kills it with a sick style and ill trick selection, one gets an overall sense that this dude is skating exactly how he wants to skate and could give a shit about anything else. there was a prevailing honesty that was trademark throughout his career... even down to the end when he retired. it was clear that he was not about to follow any trends, get involved with industry politics (he had oyola for that) or bow down to the mighty dollar... he seemed to be doing it for himself only. the humble magnificent.

i wonder what he thinks of skateboarding in 2008...

funny how this thread of honesty, and, for lack of a better term - "keeping it real", keeps coming up with these legends. As far as styles go, it started out with some more subtle and became clearer over a span of time (creager's relentless tech, for example) but with reason, it was obvious from the get-go that this dude was on some other-type shit.

thanks fellas.

Props & respect to you guys doing all this well appreciated work. It's now a daily ritual to see what's been posted - keep it going. Request for some really good ol' dirty cylzza or some top notch Kareem/Valdes Menace type shit.Cheers

The keys ad was for his first board on Zoo York. So it would have been a bit before this time. It was a double big brother ad I believe.

Regardless, thanks for these, I keep coming back other looks.

had one of his adrenaline decks with some crazy painting on the bottom. maybe only lasted a week before the top two plies cracked above the tail. the funny thing is every time i went to the wawa at 17th and arch that week, the resident bum outside would try and explain the spiritual meaning of the graphic to me.
