gearing up for getting down

so when Nike approached me about designing my own colorway for a shoe, I told them that I needed two things:

1) I wouldn't do it without Neil's ok...

and 2) It had to be a throwback.

I'm glad it all worked out...

july.

p.s. If you don't like hi-tops, feel free to cut 'em off... I supplied the scissors.

chrome ball incident #482: skate fate

Lunar Power

Moon Tan

Moon Burn

Hellen Keller

Skateboarding's first street pro and inventor of the boneless one, GSD.

Always respected the diy-renaissance steez of heads like Garry, Swank and Bend/Jenkins back in the day. They had such a huge impact on me when I first skating, essentially serving to inform me that skateboarding was so much more than just tricks... that this was not just some clean, clear-cut "sport". Sometimes its what you did off your board... A big influence on me to this day.

Wish I had some of his 'zines scanned (which was part of this post's delay)... love those Street Sheets though.

Glad to finally have this one up here.

No GSD Speed Freaks section online? Bummer.

Big up to Brink.

Remember when a car was a staple of any self-respecting, half-decent street course?

Today's my birthday. Figured today's post should show my age accordingly.

chrome ball incident #481: luck of lucien

Several requests for this one.

French ripper with one the cleanest styles going. Always loved dude's trick selection as well... no ledge is safe.

Totally forgot JB rode for the Deal back in the day... though his choosing to ride for World over 101 is a bit perplexing.

Stoked on that lost Lakai footage.

chrome ball incident #480: rebel waltz

pretty stoked on this one.

gotta admit that I fancied myself a bit too fresh back in the day to really give the kid his proper credit. dude totally rips.

makes me want to go out and try a miller flip or something...

dig his art, too.

and that 50-50 flick of tobin's up top has gotta be one of the all-time greatest.
