man... Steve Olson is one odd looking skateboard. I saw his at the first Slam City Jam contest and he'd do a trick and it looks like a hail Mary no fucking way he's gonna land it and he ends up pulling it off. Pretty incredible.
Foundation really did have a solid team back then.

So hyped. That boardslide off the roof was done at 6am and his girlfriend filmed it. I got the chance to get to know Steve pretty well for about 10 years and let me say, theres nobody quite like this guy.
That's actually what all freestyle rap sounds like to me.
That video very easily should have been titled "Don't do drugs."
Also that shop is a fucking mess. Very unshoppable.

I started skating in 1977, could never get over the fact that he was the "other" Steve Olson" The FIRST one (Alex' Pops) was and IS a legend.

The sweatsuits were more mustard than yellow.
The one time I met Steve Olson I had the pleasure of watching him try to boardslide a double kinker in Chicago. It took about 45 minutes, he waxed and rewaxed sections of the rail multiple times, would breakdance down the rail out of a bail, and took a good slam on his back too. His tricks on Hubba from Tentacles are buck.

True story...one time I was out dancing at a house club in SF (I know, I know...but I love house, what can I say) and I opened my eyes and Steve Olson was like clowning me to my face. People were laughing and I was pretty embarrassed, but I've always loved this guy and still do. This post got me so stoked. Thanks!

I once went on a mini-tour in Canada with Steve Olson--this was during his orange/yellow suit phase.
In the van I asked him about why he wore them and he said that it was because he was a Buddhist. He said he'd tried skating in the real deal orange robes but they got tangled with his board, so the suits was the closest he could get. I remember most of the suits were made by Phat Pharm. And he had one that was made out of fleece and he rocked that shit for demos in ripping August heat. It was crazy. Dude lived it, though, he got his own hotel rooms so he could meditate all night.
Super nice guy, albeit a little out there. But skateboarding needs out there. Maybe now more than ever.
