Your favorite skater's favorite skater's favorite skater. Are those banks in the first photo the same ones that everyone was skating in Florida a few years ago?
It's pretty taken for granted that someone like Julien still exists in the industry today.
Damn, j. lee, pops, and julien in the same week? Oh and the banks everyone was skating a few years ago were in Miami, not Orlando. So the photo must've been mislabeled or something. Sick post
Watched that John Cardiel doc "Epicly Later'd" on Netflix last week... Julian was featured prominently in that doc... I guess he and Cardiel go way back.
This blog is awesome. A guilty pleasure of mine. Thanks for the effort.
Lately i spend my time watching the sf part in sick boys and the first few antihero videos instead of anything new that gets released(sans new tilt mode)and julien never fails to get me stoked to skate, not just for his style but his outlook on life and society. A true renegade.
not sure if I ever learned ollie airwalks properly, e. ricks. i did a few but they felt really lousy. you never told me... you still got those late 360 shuvs on lock? hope so.
anon3, i think i have that gonz nosegrind photo. look for it the next time i post some gonz stuff... which is never that far away.
yeah keith, dude has some years behind him. i found pictures of him doing powerslides in '86 i almost used for this one. what a career though... i bet dude has stories for days.
noticed a little mob action on that one too, Royce. that is a downhill hip though. plus, i always give early street dudes the mob pass... they earned it after learning kickflips on 20lb. 10x30 boards.
regarding mob on that kf: it's there, but he rid himself of it at some point. in the footage of him from when he was on real in fucktards he does two kickflips at benencia and they look pretty modern. that dude progressed a lot between sick boys and the two video parts he had in '93.

Same banks.

just no words for his style. so raw.

Saw him around 89ish. He was skating the venice beach quater pipe, doing ollie airwalks to fakie maybe 4-5 out. Sickest thing i ever saw at the time.
So when i got home i promptly went out and broke myself off trying to learn ollie airwalks to fakie.
Needless to say i stole them and still like to do them to this day. Thanks Julien.
His clips in that old "ON" video where he is skating the same bump with a barrier. Front board and front tail, followed by the Gonz doing a nose grind
Born April 23, 1970? I didn't think he was that old. holy crap. Has there ever been a bad photo of this guy? Every one looks so damn good.

So awesome.
I hadn't ever noticed he had the "gonz mob" kickflip action. Legends.

Chops: Great work! Do those walls in Florida remind you of anything? Remember, "those oldies, but goodies" set the course of the future....
thanks for the comments.

LOL... so true. I can't even imagine how my scrawy grade 11 body circa 91 did 360 flips on a 10x30 H-Street board.
