Awesome, he still pushes mongo. Pastras put him at gonz-like status in the world box set commentary.

This just in, Guy did alot of drugs...

Man, I would hear so many stories from people I knew about Colvin. People used to sweat him HARD! And it was all the people that you thought were sick. I remember all the World guys would tell stories about him doing the most insane tricks on stuff they could barely ride up, let alone do tricks on. And thinking about his Rubbish Heap part! At the time, every trick he did in his part was solid as fuck and was one of the hottest tricks out at the time. And to film all that shit in one weekend...damn.

I skated with him a few times when he was on Black Label, but I was never lucky enough to witness what everyone always told me about. I was always waiting for it to happen but would only catch glimpses of it. If I had to liken it to something, it would probably be like explaining Mark Gonzales to some young kid who had never really seen him skate before. Maybe a little bit of footage but never got to see him in person. Then all of a sudden, they get to skate with him at this stage in his life, and they're waiting for him to do some gnarly tricks and he's just sort of cruising around being Gonz. And maybe they see something but they'll never be able to experience Gonz as we know him cause we've witnessed how amazing he's been for years now. I think he was probably at that point in his life and he was just having fun skating. If someone does a sick ass trick and no one's around to see it, is it still a sick ass trick? Maybe that's a better analogy. People don't talkt about him in reverential tones for nothing.

BTW, I remember he pushed regular most of the time when I skated with him.

He had a little interview not too long ago in Thrasher commenting about some kid who got pulled in on a motorcycle to ollie the reservoir tabletop in Phoenix.

IMO you just gotta learn to push normal. In my first few years skating, I pushed mongo, realized how kooky I looked, and changed my ways. Even Natas started out pushing mongo. Would his legend status be lessened if he pushed mongo the whole time? Or would be just be a blonde superior Bill Danforth?

thanks guys.

super good, jaycee. and that rubbish heap part was bananas. i did get a chance to colvin skate back in the day with rodney, j. lee and ron chatman but it was at a more vert oriented skate park (classic early 90's "street course" with 7' quarterpipes and a vert wall) so it really wasn't a good place for him to really shine.

and i did notice that he pushed both ways in that world industries men part which i think is kind of odd.
