Speaking of butterflies, I went to the monarch sanctuary in central Mexico. Peep mad mariposas.
I remember when the shop I rode for got in those first Experience boards and Drake Jones and iirc Jamie Thomas had pro models. I was like wtf? Who the fuck are these guys, never heard of either of them, and how did they get pro models. Jone's Addiction like Jane's Addiction.
I remember meeting him in '96. He was like "move out west and become a star." He always came off as just a straight guy.

My old homie Drake! He did what he did and just happened to be really talented at skating. Talk about effortless. I remember we used to like playing dice and I once lost $40 bucks to him. That may not sound like a lot, but at the time, $40 bucks was a lot to me! I was kinda already outta the scene when Drake decided to call it a day. At the time, I'm sure it was probably pretty crazy to a lot of people. But in hindsight, it's like Chops said, you gotta respect him for being able to walk away when he was on top. I caught up with him a little bit when he was working at Blackbox but he was outta not too long after that.
Yeah, he told me he didn't like that it felt like "work."
