chrome ball incident #646: book of life

There are no bad photos of Guy Mariano.

Beyond-classic '95 TWS Pro Spotlight, amongst other goodies.

And if that chain link 50-50 doesn't get you stoked, perhaps you should look into a new hobby. Lance with the flick. Super good.

I'm super behind on shit. I apologize to those feeling they deserve it.

Love how that one caption calls the switch hardflip a 'swith inward kickflip'.

btw, who is Matt Nailer

It is a switch inward kickflip 8) I hate the jargon hard flip lol

switch bs tail with the Dr. J's on the pots cibc rail is amazing.

That interview always had me scratching my head me with the weird Cottonmouth gear. A lot of Prime wood under his feet throughout the interview as well.

The chainlink fence grind is a great shot. And he's wearing a Menace enter the pu-tang shirt! Nice one.

He does have a lot of nice photos. In footage though, I don't think his style is super good. It seems like a lot of the cutting edge guys from that era imo don't have a style I like. Guy, Koston, Henry, Daewon just to name a few. I really like the style of Rick Howard, Carroll, Jason Lee and Gino though.

word verification is cloplog haha

Classic interview shout outs. Nice of you to dig out some late 90's early 00's Mariano coverage too! Last 4 posts were super heavy. Congrats, too!

i dont think is a switch inward heel, i think is a big spin flip, the same that was used in the Tom Penny´s part of Sorry.

I agree, Guy and some other guys looked amazing on pics but not so good on video.

Peace.

i remember now, it was not in at Panny´s Sorry part but the one of the few tricks MAriano had in Yeah Right.

Sick post, I'd never seen that interview before.

On a related note, at a ladyfriend's apartment this weekend I saw an old Chocolate setup that was the same telltale shape as all the old Girl Marianos I rode back in the day. That shape was so insanely tiny. 7.4, tapered tail, probably 30.5 inches long. Loved it.

Can you post the pic of the switch 360 flip over the gap in the vans with shoe laces untied please?

^^^^
This pic is ill!
I remember they had it in the Guy Mariano timeline on Crailtap years ago..vans ol skools with the laces flyin!
Never seen that frontside 180 nosegrind down the rail pic..shit is sick!
and the last flick is SICK...wtf is goin on with the nose of his board in that one...
and you guys saying that Guy has No Style need to wake up...sorry but your opinion is WRONG

Style is in the eye of the beholder. I always thought a big part of style was making something difficult look easy. To me, Mariano does that. Like Sanchez, Koston, etc., their style came from mastering skateboarding on a different level than most people.

haha! I love what you named that last picture!!!!I've never seen that one before, soooooooo gooood!

I always thought he looked the best skating with long hair. Unlike Trujillo who I like with short hair. The Anti-Hero content lately has been stoking me out. Mariano's clothes were really cool back then. I notice that a lot of the Girl team now i.e. Koston, Mariano and Kennedy all have this smart-casual thing going on when they skate. They kinda look like they are going to a wedding reception.

One of my all time fave interviews, in one of my all time favorite TWS.

Great photos, I'd been skating for a couple of years when I saw that f/s flip shot and always remembered it. Last photo is wunderbar. And congratulations on getting engaged.

thanks guys.

anon, no idea who matt nailer is.

keith, regarding guy's style... i think your nuts homie. haha

plat, yeah i know what you're saying. I had a few Guy boards back then and I honestly have no idea my size 11.5s skated those toothpicks.... and regarding earlier, "you know who" is supposed to email "he knows who" to help confirm or deny the existence of "you konw what".

wink, wink... that's code.

about this vans swith 360 kickflip... is that at a contest or is it an actual gap? let me know.

what's up coals. thanks everybody.

The switch 360 flip with laces undone is over a sidewalk gap, not sure, I think Koston and Tim Gavin are in the background...I forgot where I had seen it...it is ill!

man... that fakie nosegrind sequence in that interview is the best ever

lol

I never said he had bad style... just not one of the best. There's a lot of room between bad and best 8)

Matt Nailer is the dude the mNc team beat down in 20 Shot.

I rode a bunch of Guy boards; at the time they--along with Sheffey's shape--felt perfect. Imagine Girl released that shape today...

And Tully: I've thought the same thing about the Girl dudes' gear. Well, Koston's, mostly. I wear shit like that to work.

Anonymous said...

i always thought guy was a regular footer. oh well. either way he rips.

Anonymous said...

Koston's gear is tight, Alex Olson, Scott Johnston, Austyn Gillette, its just a good look? Button downs and Chino's are a classic skate look, it's just more fitted now.

Pool pic caught my eye. Nice to see
