"Sometimes I don't think I can do it, but like everybody, I'm just hoping some kind of luck will go my way... and when it does - boom! Next thing you know, you're on your board."

Ha! Thanks Chops!

I remember when Daewon first came around, some of the dudes in the World camp weren't really feeling him. They called him a robot. Could do every trick, but no flavor. Obviously he outgrew that tag and I don't think there's many that can front on how amazing this dude is. Always siked to see what he's gonna pull off next.

Killer! Daewon just kills it. Any chance of some more Menace flavour coming soon? Cheers

Funny story back in 91ish we were skating his janky ass ramp when Dae decided to put together a new Z- roller deck..Well he finished up and needed something to cut the grip off with..
So he reached down into our friend Dave's bag and pulls out Dave's brand new skate tool..Dae starts using it to sand the grip down on the sides, well thats a no no because that was Dave's brand new skate tool..
Dave saw this and jumped up and tried to take the tool out of Dae's hand.. Well they started wrestling around for a few when Dave grabbed Dae in a bear hugg from behind and was yelling at him to give back his tool..
Dave started to get pissed and began to squeeze the shit out of Dae, untill Dae freaked out and stabbed Dave in the hands with screw driver part of the tool..
Needless to say Dae dropped the tool and Dave chased Dae around the ramp for a few minute yelling im going to kill you you little asshole...
Dae ran in his house untill Dave left to go home and bandage his hands...
So funny, it makes me laugh today sharing this story..
Hahaha..Good times...

i've always liked that photo of him 360 flipping over the wall with that lime green stained world blank -- kareem especially made those stained blanks look so good. hilariously, at the time i would sometimes go out of my way to buy like an inhouse brand blank, which were stained, to complete my trilogy look. it's weird to me how 'blanks' of today are actually almost always painted or heat transferred.

Hey Anon,

We used to buy those crappy World blanks from Daewon, or he'd give us hand-me-down "worn" ones, with a couple of scrapes on the nose and tail, grip tape always oddly dirty and beaten. They often had misaligned mount holes, uneven concave, late snap in the tail. And tiny. World quality! But I too loved the simple wood stain look.

Best quote ever? When asked by a buddy of mine why he rode such small boards, Kareem said, grinning, "I like to manhandle my shit."

All time favorite. Daewon is just incredible... he's one of those skaters who SHOWS you that so much more is possible than what you may have ever even thought of. His video parts have a kind of special quality to them... you just sit there in a kind of inhuman amazement. Even that little Love Child tribute video he did a few weeks ago was mind boggling. It's like every time you see him he's gotten better.

jaycee, ever see that world clip where he does a (kickflip?) manual on this sidewalk for like... a mile.
its almost like what daewon does isn't even skating but something else entirely its own.

anon, correct.

k, that new world order part never gets old. "he's the best in the world"

that story is hilarious Ricks... i can't even imagine how funny that must've been in person.

thanks guys.

Chops-

I think I vaguely remember that clip. But yeah, good point. It's almost to the point where it's just muscle memory and a control pad. I think they were calling him Chris Senn at that point. No offense to Senn Dawg, but at that point in time, it was a pretty derogatory term. I'm glad skating's progressed to a point where most everyone can appreciate where everybody is at with their skating.

Always a treat to watch Daewon. Although that picnic table phase was pretty out of hand!

He's had some pretty weird truck sponsors ove the years... Gullwing!? Grind King!?
