chrome ball incident #364: the mollusk

the first time i ever saw karl was in that 1st think video where half his part is composed of him stressing out over a trick and sulking in a car... i don't think we've seen him frown since.

o.g. bay area staple well-versed in the powers of pma and pretzel-leg ledge combinations. karl watson.

i'm still maintaining his frontside noseslide to 270 out down hubba hideout is one of the illest moves to ever go down there... though I'll be damned if I can find it online anywhere.

i love this

and how fresh was mad circle?

mad circle was the freshest. Has to be my favorite company that had it all (team, graphics, videos) but just didn't make it.
On Karl note, the nicest, most welcoming pro i've ever encountered.

His part in the 2nd MC video was so good. Definitely his break through video part. I only really saw snippets of his skating prior to that. I love his laid back style.

It's sad that the best company under each of the big umbrellas shut down (101 under Rocco, MC under Giant). Maybe it's for the better so we can remember how great they were and they never got tarnished like Element, World or Blind.

There was that one BB sequence of a sw bs flip over one of the gaps... not sure where it is in SF... maybe down by one of the Piers (same spot at 1:10). The caption was something like "this used to be a clean switch bs 180 flip. Now it's a profile switch bs 180 flip."

This part is so good ... and the fact that it helped me discover Ween is even better :)

I remember that Gino interview. I had that issue. No idea where it is now. Probably donated it to my local library. They have the majority of my old skate mags.

Interview is cool and all but that scan is way to small. Vision is fucked after reading a few pages of that. Switch bs 180 to bs 5-0 on the table is soooooo sick. Everything in that interview is proper.

I took a trip with Karl to the Powell Skate Zone years ago. I remember we went and saw Silence of the Lambs while we were there. Yeah, it was that long ago. He'd be the first person to tell you that he was a bit of a terror when he was younger. I fell victim to the spitballs more than once. It made you want to kill him. But everyone grows up and as Karl matured, so did his skating. Along the way, he also became a father. I don't know that there's a direct correlation between the two, but I believe in Karl's case there was. And I'm glad I've been able to experience Karl Watson the amazing skater, but more importantly I'm glad I've been able to experience Karl Watson the amazing person.

I can't remember now, but I might have had something to do with him getting on Clean. I remember I was the TM at Experience at the time and I don't know how he got me to do it or even what prompted it, but the owner had me crank call Clean. I pretended to be some kid that was boys with some am kids and basically convinced them to start sending me boards. From what I remember, I think I actually got a couple/few packages from them. Kinda funny looking back on it.

The noseblunt photo was the catalyst for getting rid of my riser pads back in the day.

Oh my god I just creamed myself when I saw the nollie 180 sw crook at the Pier, shit like that is why I skate. I love Karl Watson man, so ill, hes got mad flow. He's still so good too cant wait for a new full part.

Jaycee... not to be a dick but... don't think you had much to do with Karl and Clean... Karl was roommates with a kid named Kelly H. (they were my roommates too...)... Kelly grew up with this kid Kyle who had some cash... he started CLEAN with his buddy.... We lived with Karl and Kelly... Kelly hooked Kyle up with Karl on Clean (trust me I know, i set up the europe trip they took and my buddy D Soule did his graphics)... it wasn't some random call to EXP... and when did you stop at EXP as I was there every fucking day and don't remember you kid... Refresh.... JT
