dumb question: in his slap pal interview the "reverse gonz gap" came up. what is that? it can't have been ollieing up the emb gonz gap, right? was it ollieing down to the ledge next to the wave?
Anyone know the backstory to that Mctwist or is it just some "better not to know" deal? Why is there a vert ramp on some snowy mountain? Why is he doing a demo for a bunch of snowbruces in Sweden (I know he was a pro snowboarder, but it's still strange)? Middle of a snowstorm near the arctic circle and clad in only a flannel and Dickies? Grabbing backside in front of the foot+fully committed+wet surface=certain death?
I met Cardiel while he was on a Vans tour in Costa Rica, he was with Omar Hassan and Zero-era Aaron Harrison. I was actually at his hotel when he got a call saying Bob had switched to The Firm. Cards was so bummed.
I remember asking Cardiel about how he felt growing older and still skating. He said to me, "You know how you're at some random place and some dude comes up to you saying, 'yeah, I used to skate'. Well, I don't want to be that dude." I thought that was just devastatingly awesome. And then he introduced me to Xzibit's music, he even let me have his tape. Yeah, Cards still rocked a walkman then. Cardiel is simply untouchable, like Natas or Gonz.
is that thrasher sequence of cardiel a poster? where did ya get it at, think on or two might be floating around ebay? i really wanna get it cards is the man!
giles, not sure myself... but i think you're right. didn't someone do that on animal chin?
anon1, not sure. that photo was actually a snowboard ad and the only time i've ever seen or heard of it. and in all honesty, i always heard that big brother rafters photo was a bail.
great story, simon. thanks.

how f'ing sick is that padless 540 in the snow. i think thats the illest skate photo ever.
That 5050 down the huge rail in the terrible era of Vans cupsoles... so insane!
And that 540 in the snow really is a great shot.
Great post

Chops,
Was 540 from Lemar ad; possibly around the 1996ish era?
I remember seeing that in TWSnow and thinking how much more bad ass skating was than snowboarding...
Thanks for the rehash.
