alright fellas. first i screwed up the video link then i realized i put that good stuff scan backwards. rough day. everything should be good now.
that drake jones interview over at bobshirt says joey lives in Denver. they're trying to find him for an interview...
but seriously, how come some many Real heads burnt out so quick? Bird, Fonseca, Bast, Mandoli, Jones... list goes on and on. All very short shelf lives.
Mic-e went from law enforcement to team mananger right? Better not fuck with him! LOL
Here's a wuote from crailtap: "I just ran into Joey Bast in Denver. He's been working as a golf pro. That's right. He said he goes to the skate park every now and then. I'm sure he still gets down.--Kenny Anderson"
That switch smith is sick. Real had so many good ads during most of the 90s. Like whatever they designed was the the best looking page in the magazine.
Dave Carnie always wrote about some of Mic - E's exploits in Big Brother. I'm guessing a lot of it was unsuitable to print and what did wind up in the magazine was just the tip of the iceberg. He did used to be a cop. I believe his dad was a cop from one of the stories Carnie wrote.
There was always that threat of physical violence if you left a Deluxe company. It didn't seem to stop guys from quitting. The turn over rate was a little high, even for skateboarding with frequent roster changes. I think an am would make a name for himself, realize he wasn't going to go pro for Real and bail. The company usually only had about six pros at any one time for most of the last decade.
Do you remember a PE Bast ad; the trick was a backside 180 fakie 5-0 on a high grey ledge? I could be somewhat confusing the details, but I've been scouring for that one with no luck. Amazing posts lately dude, keep it up!
thanks holmes. i remember a pe bast ad where he's doing some trick on that grey marbley ledge. the one i'm thinking of is, i believe, in the rain and he's wearing like a green windbreaker kinda joint and those white shelltoes with the black toe cap he used to sport back then.
he wasn't on pe that long so the timeframe is real short... i actually think it might be the tws with that reason physics ad we've been wondering about... blue cover with a few different photos on the cover.
of course, every ad i can't find i always attribute to this magical issue cause i don't have it. haha
As much as I love Real and everything they ever stood for... They had a way of stringing people along and Joey was one of them... (anyone remember Johnny Foncica?).
Funny Joey story... Yes he turned golf pro here in the CO... He was playing in a charity tourney here and there was a prize of 10k if someone hit a hole in one on a one certain hole... Well Joey did but... the officials tried to pull some shit and say that no one official witnessed it so it didn't happen. Long story short... Joey got a lawyer and they paid up shortly afterwards...

I googled it and there he is, 91st place.
I didn't even remember him riding for PE. I thought it was just Real for life.

That's definitely the one. Do you remember what features were in that issue? I think I have it somewhere.

Joey... A Colorado boy for life...
