chrome ball incident #629: a little something

too much time focusing on the sheff's hi-jinx back in the day shortchanges him a bit. fact of the matter is that sean is one of the best to ever roll and I couldn't be happier he's out there doing his thing today.

a backside 180 ollie over a bench in 1990 is fucking crazy.

and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the first straight-over 50-50 on a handrail? 1995.

and there's also this part. 2 weeks.

the real got nothing to prove. legendary status.

Power and finesse! One of the sweetest guys you'll ever meet. That picture of Sean and Jovontae is a classic! So young. The picture of him blasting that backside ollie at Fort Miley is amazing! The bail he took trying one of those in the Goldfish video is so gnarly!

Is that spot still there where he is doing a kickflip? I know they skated it a bunch in Mouse.

In 1990-1991 I skated DC on a regular basis and had the pleasure of being STUNNED at his skating often. Sheffey would backside ollie over the 'Welfare' benches at SPEED which were waist high. Plus, his trucks were so loose they were almost falling off. It was incredible. His skill and power was just unreal to witness, especially back then. We all had SHUT boards hoping some of that skating would rub off on us...

here is one of my most memorable sheffey moments. it was probably '97 or '98. we were skating with sean on a pretty normal basis. i go out of my bedroom and he's chilling on our couch. i say what up and stick out my right hand to shake his. he sticks out his left. i go to shake his left with my right; like twist it around. he leaps up, pissed. "don't you ever come at me like that again! left is for love" naturally i extend my left hand and we shake. and everything is chill again.
he could be intimidating but is hella cool.
i also had the pleasure of skating with him quite a bit. his style is so unique. super powerful but light on his toes.
that probably is the first over grind. i remember not really appreciating it as much when he did it at city college for his last trick in mouse. looking back; now i do.
On a much more somber note; long time SD ripper and friend, Matt Brode passed away yesterday. He was only 26. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

legend.

i think natas did ollie over the funbox-rail to 50/50 in Münster in 1990 or 1991 but couldn´t find any proof. i remember being shocked when i saw it.

all thesee pics are great...Sheffey has always had such an ill style and was one of the first people I saw doing big tricks switch..in that 6th pic (backside tailslide)..his gear is too ill..2 pairs of socks (one adidas, one polo)..cut down adidas forums with electric tape, one leg rolled up and tiny wheels..this man will always be a legend in my mind.

To me, there is only 3 guys in the 90's who could 50-50 like that: Gonz at Blind, Robbie Gangemmi at ZY Mix Tape and Sheffey for sure! Hey Chops, you got that picture picture from ollie over his son at Plan B's Virtual Reality? And that ollie over the cement block? That was sick! His Dvs model was one of the best kicks I have ever had!!!

so rad the guy in the background of the brooklyn banks photo. pushing away mongo, looking back at sheff, shirt tucked in.
i still watch his soldiers story part to get hyped before going skating. last time was probably a month ago.

Saw him in person at UCSB in Santa Barbara in like 90-91. I was trying the boardslide that Sal Barbier does in Hokus Pokus where he pops over to the other side (right before Kit Erikson). I was making it all the way to the end but couldn't do the whole thing. He started egging me on in a nice way saying "go faster, go faster".
I made it and got props from him and the other H Street dudes. I'll never forget that..

i was living in san marcos a few months ago and bumped into a tall dude with a long sleeve royal blue es shirt, es shoes, and a nose ring at the exit of Ralphs.

sean gives the firmest handshake and has big plumpy hands.
i just congratulated him for being back skateboarding and on blind and his es collabo.
he smiled and listened all the time and even asked my name.
super humble, down to earth, smiling, and chill man.

PAT DUFFY STRAIGHT OVER 50-50S IN 91 PLAN B VIDEO...

I remember a UK skate mag article from around the 1995 competition in Northampton (I think) that said Sean was spotted wearing 'no less than three hats' at the same time.

Brilliant.

Don't forget first picnic table ollie in the Life vid! Power defined. And trying to take the mic from Method Man.... Raw.

Didn't Gonz do a straight over 50-50 on a rail at Savannah Slammah in about '88? Yeah, yeah. it was a small rail, PVC, whatever...
