chrome ball incident #314: a devil among the tailors

been wanting to do this one for a while: for the old(er) heads out there, O.G. east coast ripper Tom Groholski.

straight outta Jersey, 100% soul.

on an unrelated note, I had a few people asking me who my pick was for the Battle at the Berrics 2...

well, my man's got enough consistency and weird early-90's tricks to win it all if that injury (or p-rod) doesn't take him out. so far so good.

p.s. take care kathleen.

There was this huge air vs. lip tricks debate during the mid '80s with Groholski and Blender leading the charge. And to some degree it's still going on.

Miss that old reading spot. A fun place to spend the day. He ruled that place long before I even knew where it was. Can't believe how long that place stayed their before they tore it up.

i remember cutting out the board from the ad in the top picture and pasting it on to some poster board then cutting that out as my finger board, using balsa wood glued as the trucks the axles and wheels from a matchbox car for wheels. that's how tech my deck was.

I had the yellow version of that top board. I got it a shop grand opening complete with a Gator/Ken Park jump ramp demo.

readng was wild. my parents took me there in '88 with some friends. i think it had recently been officially reopened. we had to wear helmets. some dudes in their mid 20s were doing these super old school early grab transfers from the snake run into the bowl. one of them landed on me! then i went back with a friend in '99. somehow i was able to find it. it was derelict, but we could skate a bunch of it. some random guy came by and said he'd been the manager in the 80s. it was kind of trippy. that said, those ollies reese forbes does there in ee3, hard to fathom.

I don't think I've ever seen any footage of him skating and if I did, I wasn't paying attention. There's a good bit on him in Disposable about his Devil graphic.
