chrome ball incident #611: finesse

Figured I'd start the week off right with a little Lord Pep.

The mid-90's were a bit dull in comparison to the explosion of innovation and weirdness the beginning of the decade brought. Fortunately, the rise of East Coast spots like Pulaski and Love made things a bit more interesting. The Funky Technician was always right there in the mix.

And this still gets me hyped.

Special thanks to Damon over at Deluxe. Good things are on the way.

chrome ball incident #220: 9th wonder

went with some classic element-era pepe today along with his skateboarder interview from '01.

stone's botched slap article is classic... i wonder if they were ever able to recover what was on that tape.

chrome ball incident #148: banned in d.c.

I've been vibing off these Chocolate City-centric Nicotine/Capital ads for a minute now... such an exciting time when all these new companies were sprouting up (not just for DC kids but the east coast heads in general). Seemed like some major shit was about to go down industry-wise. And then... nothing. Seemingly out of nowhere, the balloon just popped and just like that, shit was over.

This Andy Stone interview over at Bobshirt gets into all that and much more.

chrome ball incident #63: the funky technician

Nice little interview with Lord Pep and his girlfriend from the Feb. 95 issue of Transworld. The interview reads real laid back and cool while that opening spread is a beast... despite TWS's puzzling decision to highlight the fact that Pepe likes shoes. A lot.

The article is post-Fine Artists and while the flicks are cool, there's obviously something missing. The notion of a Pepe post without any Pulaski in it is just ridiculous, so I had to remedy the situation. Consider that first joint up there the cherry on top.

chrome ball incident #14: crooks, crack, gogo and pepe

i got so hyped when this came out. remember when you thought these dudes were gonna change the whole shit. that capital and illuminati/silverstar were gonna make some power moves and bring some real industry muscle to the east coast...

6 months after this ad ran, both those companies were broke and i was standing outside in 10 degree weather with a foot of snow on the ground.
