cbi's first ccs

I was asked by the fine folks at CCS to take a look back at my first California Cheap Skates catalog from the fall of 1988. It was specifically this edition that informed what would be my very first "real" board for Christmas that year… like a monkey being shot into space.

I even wrote a little piece for the new catalog as well.

A lot of things have changed in skateboarding over the past 37 years since this little booklet’s publication (far less berets now), but it’s still the best.

Big thanks to Robin Fleming, Matt Price, and the entire CCS massive for this truly full circle moment.

This is great! I started skating around that same year, and sure enough my first proper board was in there (White Per Welinder Street). Nostalgia is a powerful drug! Great commentary and great memories of those catalogs. Personal fav: the one with Pepe’s sequence of a switch flip back tail at Pulaski, circa ‘94.
