exit music (for a blog) / farewell transmission

Top 5 Most Embarrassing Chrome Ball Moments:

1. Butt-dialing Colin McKay in the Taco Bell Drive-Thru.

2. Accidentally texting Ron Chatman the name of my cat's stool softener and telling him that I loved him.

3. My cat throwing up on me in the middle of interviewing Tim O'Connor.

4. Erroneously emailing Don Pendleton to "hurry the fuck up". A mistake that in-part led to the start of this blog. (long story)

5. Walking into a fire hydrant while talking to Brian Anderson at Tampa Pro.

=O

Thanks to Tara again...

To my old day-job for being dumb enough to let me get away with murder. Fuck you.

To all my interview subjects and guest posters. To all the people that commented both known and anonymous. To all those that have hooked me up with whatever. And to the lurkers... always the lurkers.

And most of all, to the photographers who's work has been featured on this site.

Thank you skateboarding.

Your friend and humble narrator,
Chops

P.S. Does anybody remember that insert that came with the cassette of Fear of a Black Planet?

P.S.S. Yes, this site will stay up for as long as necessary.

bye.

Best site ever and although I'm bummed its ending, I'm stoked that you went out on top.
It's better to burn out than to fade away.
I'm driving down to Portland to check out the show next weekend and I've got something for ya, I'll leave it at Cal's if I can't track you down. Take care.

  19. I will never thank you enough for what you did, and am really glad it's all staying online.
You made many old farts happy and educated lots of younger skate rats, I wish I could say that about most of the contemporary media, but the CBI was just the best.

    Have fun skating.

  23. Man. I'm gonna miss the comments too. For sure. I liked hearing stories and shit from people about the 80s and 90s skate scene. Wish there was a way to be alerted to new comments left on old posts. I know people sometimes find this site and chime in way after something was posted. Myself included. Anyways, thanks for everything Holmes. Best site ever. Interviews were all amazing. Fuck. Im gonna start having chrome ball withdrawals soon.

  31. Though i've only known about this site for around 2 years, its been favorited and checked daily for updates. Gone through many of the incidents and have always thoroughly enjoyed them. Such a great way to encapsulate riders and bring attention to these amazing skaters. Some that I am familiar with and others I would have otherwise not known of. Best of luck in the rest of your endeavors chops!

  34. Sad to see Chrome Ball end. The well eventually dries out.

How awesome is it that a random skate nerd living in PA got to meet and interview his childhood idols through a blog. Amazing work Eric.

See you around. Stay in touch.

  35. muscle memory in my fingers keeps making my keyboard unconsciously transport to this blog. it's the same slow reaction/adjustment time that's kept me sucking at skateboarding for 20+ years.

  36. Chops...

So, for over five years now (since the 'Polite Meeting' back on April 19th 2008) CBI's been a constant friend and a daily reference - and more often than not it would often turn out to be one of the highlights of my day.

Congratulations on everything you've achieved, who'd have thought it.

Days won't quite seem the same, at least for a while - but all good things must come to an end, right... ?

And the Ferris ender was the final, classic touch.

All the best for the future... Matt K (London).
