chrome ball incident #829: rose parade

Seemed like the obvious choice... and a cheap way to get in good with my new neighbors.

A selection of classic flicks from Portland's revolutionary ode to elbow grease, the Burnside Project.

20 years deep. Incredible.

---

And yes, we made it. Crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on other side... somehow.

Loving it here.

Shout out to Scumco & Sons, OneUP Skateshop, Hopps, Orchard Skateshop, Chez the Goopy Grump, Jim Thiebaud and Deluxe, Jerry Fowler, Chris Nieratko, James Jarvis, Deaf Lens, Skately, Uno, Rob Sissi and the Nike Skateboarding fam.

Special thanks to Wyatt Lee, Ms. Peel and my Mom.

Good to be back. How you been?

  2. Welcome back!

Damn, such a gnarly collection of pics. One of those spots on the bucket list. One of these days.

Soo stoked on Sparks tweaked nosegrab. And anything from Brent Atchley, always dug his loose style.

  7. My insomnia awoke me at 3:30 this morning. First thing I did? Visit chromeball to see what last night's post was. So stoked. So much good stuff in this post. Too much to go in and identify.

Very good to have you back, Chops. Hope you're all settled in.

  8. Good choice, Mr Blockbuster. And no, I'm not talking about red curbs.

I forgot about that Carnie article. Pure gold. Whatever happened to Brent Atchley. Bright match burn fast? Haven't seen much from him.

Anonymous, if you have the chance take your time and soak in sights and spots. Don't do it in four days.

  9. Welcome back Eric and glad to hear the move went smoothly.

What year is that Mark SCott article from?

    Fowlers fs rock looks amazing.

And a seatbelt grab not done by Remy Stratton and at burnside. Great!

  16. So many jems in this post, love it.

Highlights for me include that tailgrab nosestall by Karl Hubble on the cider block wall, love that you can see the layout of how burnside looked when it first was built.

Also love that frontside ollie by Matt Beach on that wall on size 38mm wheels. How everyone skated and ripped that place on such little wheels still amazes me.

All the photos of Mark Scott are golden and if anyone ever saw Red skate that place you know how amazing he is.

Same goes for Mike Chin taking tech skating at burnside to a whole other level there.

  19. YEEEESSSSS!

Seeing Red at Burnside (even circa '92) is still the rawest skating I've ever witnessed.

I've been sitting on that photo of Karl Hubble for over a decade...glad it found a home in a proper Burnside forum. He destroyed that place (maybe still does? Anyone?) I watched him break his ankle on a 4 foot nollie melon on the big quarter. F.: maybe it was the small wheels...

Ethan front rock is probably the best single photo I can think of there. And so much footage...where is the footage?!

Carnie should get some kind of social anthropology award. Oh love.

Billy Valdez cat out of water? And they call it a hip. Superb.

What I wouldn't pay to see Stranger there.

    Or Ben Krahn....

Good job Chops...and enjoy the view.

  25. i skated burnside when i was 15 in 2004. it was gnarly. moreso the park then the people which isnt what i expected, there were locals ripping but noone was snaking and the vibe was good. but that is one park that would definitely take some getting used to. and what you dont get from the photos is that this really is some shit someone built under a huge brige on the bad side of town with bums and addicts prowling around.
