Even though he remains one of the more polarizing presences of the 1990s, the man's impact and influence are undeniable.
Mike Ternasky. RIP
Had the privilege of checking out the new Danny Way documentary on what was the 18th anniversary of MT's passing last Thursday. Very heavy stuff. Highly recommended.
Special thanks once again to Jake the Janitor, Chris Grosso,
Alyasha, Templeton Elliott,
TSM and
Color Magazine.
...and if anybody can hook me up with a dub of the "Not the New H-Street Video", please let me know. I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks guys.
I got you Chops, I just started the upload.
ReplyDeletehaha, thanks ATM!
ReplyDeleteI've always preferred H-Street over Powell Peralta. Powell vids came across way too slick. But when those H-Street vids came out with the footage being bro cam, it had an instant relatability. It was like, "Oh shit! It's dudes skating a launch ramp in their driveway and his friend filmed it."
ReplyDeleteIf there was one company from the '80s I'd like to see re-started, it'd be H-Street. I don't recall completely, but the reason there can't be another H-Street is because T Mag and the money man had a falling out of some sort, and the money man owns the name? Hence the Evol team in the early '90s.
Here's the link, for any and all interested: http://depositfiles.com/files/vkysjvnf1
ReplyDeleteGot it. Thanks so much, ATM. I owe you one. Stoked, man.
ReplyDeleteNever read an interview with MT,not for the lack of looking, either.
ReplyDeleteNice one ; )
I'd love to have seen where skateboarding & the industry would be,if it wasn't for his passing.
A nice guy, right to the untimely end.
How 'bout that Daniel Castillo post, sometime,Chops?!
Nice post chops...
ReplyDeleteCan't believe MT passed away 18 years ago... the H-Street days were like this bridge between the Powell old guard and World. MT certainly contributed alot in a short time...
Great post. Took me a while to realize that Carroll was flipping the bird in the '91 team photo. By the way, I think they're trying to bring H Street back;

Crazy to see Koston's name misspelled in an article. That's going back...
ReplyDeleteThanks ATM! I'm just getting to see some of these videos for the first time. I think there was a good four years when my parents moved us out to the boondocks that I didn't really get to see skate videos. My nearest buddy was a mile away.
ReplyDeleteA few things I've noticed:
1. MT had a HUGE influence on the industry. He was like the second coming of Rocco.
2. Sal Barbier never really got his proper due.
3. Alphonzo Rawls was a really good vert skater.
4. I know where my friend's fond affection of Op Ivy comes from.
H street next generation is so good. There's a DVD box set online I've been dying to get. Def Fav. Co. Of all time
ReplyDeleteThis is not the new H-STREET Video

RIP.
ReplyDeleteThe Danny Way doc really does highlight his strong relationship with MT.
It seems like it took a certain type of personality to understand MT and how he pushes peoples buttons.
In some of the Epicly Laterd with former plan B riders, they talk about how the pressure of filming for Virtual Reality sucked.
The new rebooted H-street seems like chasing old glory. I saw a team board just the other day with the Hensley fs one footer Hokus Pokus cover as the graphic. It would be sweet if Hensley got some dough from the sales. Otherwise, it's just lame. Same goes for that Barbier Raiders re-issue.
