chrome ball incident #784: the sprinkler

"Hey, I'm already getting ripped off enough in skateboarding for what I do. Why not get some money? I've paid my dues. I deserve it. I pay my own medical bills. Skateboarders are on their own with that type of stuff... So the money I'm getting for my shoes is going to pay for my surgery I had not too long ago."

Been wanting to do another AP post ever since seeing him pop up in Alex's guest post. So gnarly.

Also, be sure to check out part 1 of this amazing piece Ride is doing on Matt Hensley. Super good.

Have a good weekend.

Bye.

  2. Anyone got a scan of a really old add (SMA?)of AP hucking himself down a massive dirt gap of a hairpinned mountain road? I remember the text saying something like "this gap is not as big as Markovich's, but Al's trying really hard". I'd love to see that one again.

  3. I always thought this man had some gnarly style, especially for the era he skated in. He stood out for sure, Puma skate should come back. Check out the height on that wallride-fakie, damn, I gotta dig up this issue! Also cool that he just called it quits on his own terms (and he still kills it).

  4. Matt Hensley is a good man. I'll put on Hokus Pokus from time to time before going out to skate.

  5. @clew

I believe that was a Consolidated ad. That would have been in the first year(s) of Consolidated being in business. I recall seeing that in Transworld, and back then Transworld would have been about 80 pages cover to cover. So maybe around 1993?

  8. That smaller-than-Markovich-gap is a great shot!

Stoked on him in the Speed Wheels video, then I didn't see much for a while aside from a few clips in 411. Then saw him at a few contests. Amazing power and flow.

    That Hensley thing is awesome!

  10. Was that AP in a Consolidated ad ollieing from freeway to freeway in an older ad? It said something like, "The 405 and I-5 don't connect, until now..." or something to that effect...anyone have that one scanned?

  11. Agreed Keith! Not discounting Cards but Shao, Speyer, Petersen, Brauch and others were also all terrain rippers in the day as well.
AP would have been a nice fit for Anti Hero. Did he disappear to Oz or something? I haven't seen anything from him in ages.
