"Jamming down the streets, popping ollies and shit. This is the type of skating I do all the time."
some vintage
Mark Gonzales to get you stoked for the weekend.
...that last flick with the ollie down seven gets me so hyped.
special announcement next week.
The fs ollie over the miniramp channel was and still is so nuts, when you looke at his Vision board he is riding. What a massive kicknose lol. Mad respect to the legend he is. Good post and whole week in general again. Cheers for all the effort you put into CBI, always a must visit and makes our day enjoyable. Cheers
ReplyDeletenever enough gonz
ReplyDeleteExcellent week for CBI... every post got me hyped this week. Gonz is the cherry on top. Ever since I heard his voice the first time, I always thought of Kermit the frog, as I am sure others have. And nothing will ever be greater than the ad in 411vm with Gonz and Nate Jones doing the backtails at Pier 7. Classic!
ReplyDeletethanks guys.
ReplyDeletemake sure to check out fflzine.blogspot.com as they just recently put up a real good simon woodstock interview that i've been meaning to post a link to for the last two days. sorry guys.
happy birthday, mike!
thanks, jim
carlsbad gap r.i.p.
Ah man..I forgot about that channel ollie! Love this guy. Heard once that he learned switch tre's at 33, that's always stoked me out.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit, Chops!
ReplyDeleteI thought I remembered every single angle and coverage of the Hawaii mini ramp gap ollie, I absolutely do not recall this one, so amazing and thanks for digging that shit out of the crates!
That video is a big slice of 80s cheese. Not Gonz's skateboarding, though- a 50/50 on a handrail in 1989? Like my man Mr. T says, Absoludicrous.
ReplyDeleteI'm just sayin, that frontside invert is maybe the best two-page spread ever to grace the Mag. All Gonz pics were sick, but before this there wasn't a whole lotta tape of him on transition (or none til Blind?), or much crossover btwn those realms. Gonz was 1st name in street skatering, but then suddenly he's Crushing not only the hardest invert to make but the most stylin f-side ever photographed, on what appears to be bout a 6' ramp (Blender?) - so insane, in every frame. the longer you look at it, the easier the trick gets, then the physics stop making any sense, then easy again, then nonsense, & so forth.
ReplyDeletebut i guess that goes for the whole lot of em, Viva la Enigma - Much Thanks !!
I think he basically turns the frontside invert into an eggplant. He does not come in like most people. I have no idea how he does that. It's kind of like that weird layback air to invert Jeff Phillips would. I honestly can't figure out the physics of it. Funny, Gonz' street plants were the same invert.
ReplyDeletei think he naturally does his streetplants switch (check the sadplant vision ad) ...which sheds light unto how he performs those wild f/s inverts
ReplyDeleteOr his street plants are eggplants with a tailbone!
ReplyDeleteThe 12 Foot Ollie in Hawaii for that Vision ad blew me away. What a vital and creative time in skating. Keep up the good work, memories...
ReplyDeleteAlcatraz shot is great. Classic.
ReplyDeleteSmoking fish!
