chrome ball incident #427: dock ellis













one of skateboarding's true legends, jeff phillips.

texas innovator and skatepark owner who wasn't afraid to do his own thing...

which usually meant busting a phillips 66 with his iconic skull-and-crossbones helmet and trademark tye-dye shirt.

one of the few to ever beat hawk and hosoi in their prime (holiday havoc)... reportedly with a head full of acid.

absolutely love the color in these ads... so 80's but also so very jeff.

and that mini-interview with blender is still amazing.

    Epic Post, with a great name--i met Dock once as a kid at a Texas Rangers game and asked him about it--his reply: "How old are you anyway?" I was 12--LOL

    That said, Phillips was the man, wish he was still around, would be interesting to see how he would have fared in the present with guys like Hawk, Miller, and Hosoi and Lester all still shredding it.

    I remember a Rolling Stone article on his life and death, think I'll try and Google it now to see if I can read it again.

    man that interview was amazing? i actually grew up at jeff phillips skate park as a kid. reading that interview i felt like i was hanging out in the shop listening to jeff talk all over again. i miss you every day jeff. deffinetly did a lot to mold me into the skateboarder i am today. been skating for 20+ years, and doing it for fun the whole time. if it aint fun, i'm over it!
