#627: journey to the end of the night.

"I was coming out of the tunnel on the N Judah. I was looking out the window and saw MC and some other EMB heads skating the Safeway Curb. Mike did a backlip, stood on it, and came out fakie. I stayed on the train but went back later and tried that shit over and over and over."

Felt like some Julien today. The best.

Hot Rod.

Last scan is so good. That quick tranny brick bank to vert looks so gnarly.

Top 5 styles of all time.

Mindreader! I was just looking at some Julien photos the other night. You got some heat in this post! The Reason Why article is pretty spot on. I ran across the Julien post on the SLAP message board the other night and it was really cool to see so many people appreciating Julien's skating. Cause it was always hard to know how people thought of Julien outside of SF. Cause we all knew how sick and stylish of a skater he was, but he wasn't really the type of guy to go out make sure the cameras were around. But what coverage/footage he did get, was always pure gold. But as always, it's nothing like seeing the guy skate in person. He was always that guy that I think, when people picture someone riding a skateboard in their head perfectly, it's always Julien that they're picturing.

Oh, and if you ever come across it, my favorite Julien photo of all time is a Zero Sophisto ad where he's doing an ollie shifty over a hip and it says, "Express Yourself". If you ever see that and get a chance to scan it, I'll be your friend forever. :)

This post just kept going and going. Knew from the title and got stoked. Funny to see him hitting up the LA hot spots with the feeble and tailslide. thanks chops. thanks julien.

Anyone have the front feeble or blacksmith on rail at some school? Maybe a Vans ad circa 1998?

julien has the sickest style... i still have a s.m.a illegal alien sticker that looks like an i.d. card. the original anti hero boards with the color on the side were sick as well. you always knew who rode A.H. back then

easily top 5 styles of all-time.

jaycee, i'd love to put that one up but i honestly don't recall ever seeing that... i hope we can still be friends though :)

smorales i was thinking the same thing about how weird it is seeing him doing the l.a. thing... though it is easy to forget that he's from there. as arco would say: duality.

thanks lucas. and i don't mean to open a can of worms here but how come that skypager part wasn't in your top 25.

thanks guys.

UE did a demo at Endless in Raleigh around the Skypager era. It is a downhill parking lot and Julien cruised it and PRESSURE FLIPPED over a 5 gallon bucket. THis is when that trick was typically low and ugly. He did it at mach 10 over the bucket. That is all. Good post.

One of my first videos ever seen was Hellride in 94 by Chave Mestra, a Brazilian video mag.
This video it´s a worth to see, due to epic appearances by Jake Phelps, Joe Tershay and John Cardiel along with Julien touring in Brazil through Brazilian Bowls and Skateparks in 1994!

Yeah, Julien should have been in there. Salman, too. Choosing 25 parts was harder than I thought it would be.

one of my ALL TIME favorite boards when I was younger, his SMA Syringe Plane. I rode that board to death

Definately in the top 3 for style..had the lowrider sma board and watched his skypager part for stoke everyday before skatin'..of course i need to throw some negativity..sorry..he has always tried to be the underground guy and its funny that anti hero is now such a BIG company..i guess you cant keep that much talent and great ideas on the downlow but seems he really always wanted to be noticed in the skateboard world....stranger is not that strange in my opinion..love watching him skate though..yes i know im an asshole.
