chrome ball incident #608: protractor

along with the san diego greyhound bumps, last of the world famous spots that didn't look like it would kill you... even though it was harder than hell to skate.

the notoriously steep/poopy beryl banks.

big up to peel, sprtrl, e.ricks, and scumco nick. super good.

internet shack is back.

a good week coming up.

    still...

  2. Gino's cab flip from 'Snuff' blew me away. As did the accompanying high-pitch shrieking in the background.

  5. Always like that Howard sw 360 flip cover! Beryl always looked so damn steep.

Gino's fakie hard flip... even though he sorta pivoted it, it looks good.

Jason Lee ollie is super stylish.

I always remembered that Marcus ad... how he's leaning so far back to jam up it for a nollie trick.

  6. the bank to curb there needs some love & respect too. everything henry did there still is so hard. and austyns bs nb rules.

that's gotta be the one and only eric ricks. i hate how the photog tilted the horizon in that shot to make it look less steep... prolly accidental. i agree about that j. lee pic tho... shit looks insane. i've been to that spot before... so hard to skate. unless you're some crazy natural, it's the kind of place us regular guys would really have to session for a while to get the feel of in order to throw down anything of value. ha. i dunno, landing any flip trick on that thing always scared me.

  10. also, i have to give credit to jeremy klien. whatever people may think of the dude now, he always ruled that place. that 360 kf still amazes me. and skating that thing with that skate-stopper bar at the bottom... fuck, dude had control.

  11. What a mad spot. The Rick Howard Thrasher cover is sick. The little yellow banana board in the back of the shot reminded me that I had a picture of Rick on my wall b.i.t.d. ( undoubtedly from the same session ), where he was 360 flippin' on that yellow board. Not only amazing but a nice injection of humour at a time when skating was still a little too serious in some respects. Also reminds me of Jeremy Kliens section in Uno. Another tre flip at Beryl ( with the pipe ) and more chuckles. Good shit.

  12. pretty much anything at this spot impresses the shit outta me. i'm not sure i could walk up that thing let alone get a trick. j. lee's is the most fun to look at for me. boosted, clean style. pretty crazy high. good post. thanks for making my monday mo bettah.

  15. I love these spot posts, but it would be awesome if you tagged them with the names of all the skaters in them. Just so that you don't miss anything if you're looking for everything from a particular skater. Just a suggestion.

  16. keith, I think I almost like Gino's fakie hardflip because of the pivot. Hitting that thing fakie and flowing such an awkward trick like that, then landing with a pivot on such a steep angle. forget about it.

handsclapanin, i almost threw the little banks in there but the only photos I could find were almost all dudes that were already posted on the big banks. kinda felt a little redundant.

big up to sprntrl and e.ricks.

you're probably right taylor. i'll try to get to that soon enough.

    thanks guys.

  17. I had that Jason Lee picture on my wall for about 10 years. One of the best skate photos ever. Just an ollie, but pure style!

Chromeball Ft. Miley. and Hubba. That would be a sick feature. Lots of crazy tricks at that spot too. An iconic SF spot too.

  19. E. Ricks! That's a name I haven't seen in a LONG time. Big ups.
That Jason Lee ad is timeless. I remember that fading on my wall. I have a similar photo I shot in Abq like that on a school hip.

  20. henry's nosebluntslide at beryl was amazing; he did it about four years before templeton, which was about a decade of progression in those days, and without being dramtaically slo-mo'd. not a knock against ed's skating though; i'm the biggest believer in style, and that it's totally cool for different guys to do the same trick at the same spot. but the way that it seemed henry rattled that off, along with relatively weird tricks for that spot like noseslide-nosegrind to fakie...killer.
