chrome ball incident #769: artofoto

"My partner and homie in destruction. Owner of the littlest nipples alive, Arto is Fuckin' Shit Up." -Geoff

Having recently abandoned Platinum for a comfy new spot on the Flip squad, Arto's 2000 Thrasher Blowout raised the bar substantially. Straight-up ripper.

Still don't think this part gets enough credit in the grand scheme of things.

Special guest post tomorrow.

I remember when Arto came in and won that first contest. It seemed like skateboarding was cruising along and then this robot comes out of nowhere and destroys the status quo. He definitely caused a paradigm shift that kinda took skating up a notch.
I'm bummed robots came out of that(i.e. Nyjah, Double Pits to Chesty, etc) but he also made everyone work for everything. It's nice to see him have some sketchy landings now as his Flip videos always seemed boring to me because everything was perfect.
He still kills it.

I swear this guy is a robot!! The funny thing is that he was almost sponsored by Cliché back in the day before every worldwide company got on his d*ck. His Es Menikmati was definitely a shift when it came to skating big rails/stairs...I agree that his next parts were too boring after that part...but like GR put it he's still f*cking the sh*t up!!

Love Arto because of his dedication and gnarliness! Gotta give it up for him for "inventing" the regular/switch section in Flip's sorry. Damned killed it in this part as well as in all his other parts. Long hail arto!

PS: chops always comes through with tight shit. Just rewatched the mindfield part and it is fucking underrated!

411VM EUROPE 1998 is the first time I saw him skate. I've been a fan ever since.

Arto almost had a mythical existence for me and my friends in the early 2000's. We'd hear his name and see it on Flip boards but never saw any photos or footage of him, before the day's of everything coming at you on the internet all the time. When I first got into skating magazines weren't as common around where I lived either. He had this weird name and was on Flip so we knew he must've been really good and then I saw a few clips of him in one of the CKY videos and was blown away. Amazing style and casually doing the biggest stuff. Then Menikmati came out and then Sorry a couple of years later and the guy was a legend. Looking back he was so young when all that happened too, it's crazy to think about. I don't think there's anything boring about anything the guy has ever put out. Great post

The backside disaster at the jungle bowl is gnarly. Used to skate that pool a lot and doing that trick in the deep end is no joke! Always loved Arto.

First flip part is one of the best ever. He does like every trick both ways. So good.
