chrome ball incident #749: jump in the fire

I honestly had a few other things planned but after checking this out, it looks like we're going with this New Jersey theme for the rest of the week.

the lip extraordinaire himself, Tom Groholski aka the Jersey Devil.

And yes, that last scan is Tom's response to the love letter I wrote him back in 1988. I was 10 years old and that poster stoked me the fuck out.

...between the autograph story and the madrid ad, this post is making me feel ancient.

Big up to Grosso.

I can’t believe how hard they skated that fiberglass (plexiglass?) ramp. My friend scored a fiberglass 1/4 pipe for free back in the day and we turned it into swiss cheese on the first day.

Gall? Dune? Quim? Who’s next?

That ollie to grind up the extension was in the first skateboard magazine I ever bought. If memory serves, it's from a Thrasher article about a vert contest in Tempe, AZ.

Now, where'd I put my cane?

That Love Letters to Skateboarding issue was great, be sick to see that old TWS interview with him, seem to remember him being in his bedroom wearing some halloween mask...all time ruler. Still got one of his old stickers lurking around somewhere.

Nice one. Tom Groholski's one of my all-time favourites. Unique style and a true pioneer. This is the icing on the Grosso-baked Jersey Devil cake.

Shame there's not more of his footage available - there wasn't much BITD either. Clips on "Psycho Skate" and some great runs on the "Chicago Blowout" comp, including "head-locks" with Jeff Hedges and Neil Blender. Ha.

Joe Gruber? Anyone have a link to that promo video Joe Gruber part? Think it was a Vision Street Wear promo.

don't taint the beast's comments page with mention of the Grubers...

Tom & Dan Wilkes were two lip trick masters who flew under the radar their whole career...they both had that smooth in control almost slow mo style... All their tricks were done proper & w/o any chaos... Skate Rags... Fuck yes!

Heres a great site with plenty of Groholski, Sean Miller, and other Mid Atlantic shredders.
