chrome ball incident #624: cut the reins

"Just skate and don't listen to what anybody else says."

Figured I'd start the week off right with some T.G., featuring his little-seen 1990 Poweredge interview.

Ripping style, holmes. (sorry, couldn't resist)

*UPDATE* the last page of the interview is now posted. sorry about that.

big up to nick and ben. and peel and elaine, of course.

Will always be a hero to me. Been thinking about Tommy's skating lately with the Real video dropping and how much it inspired me as a kid to explore SF and see different sides of it. I grew up in a not so nice part of town and skating saved my life in a sense. Not to sound overly dramatic, but part of me thinks of my early heroes like TG and thanks them for doing what they did and how they continue to inspire me. I still see Tommy here and there and there's always a little bit of the kid who idolized him that comes out whenever that happens. Awesome way to start the week and hopefully I can get some time in on the old stuntwood.

Thanks Chops! One!

Damn, George P is a turd. Stacey was the man. I can't wait to hear Tommy's views in the Bones Brigade movie. TG, style for days!

This is a great listen: An hour long interview with the man himself. Came out last week. Goes good with the post no doubt. http://www.kqed.org/a/forum/R201104181000

George Powell was just a business man. Like all the others who ran the big companies in the 80's, they were all business men. It was about the bottom dollar. He was just lucky to have Stacey to guide him and scout.
Tommy G is one of the best ever. He's never really cared about what anyone thought and just did his thing. Still a fan and love his music.

That frontside Smith grind is sick. TG was always stylish.

I miss the old Poweredge. Do you have the issue with the Sal Barbier interview? That would make a great post.

It's always seems like TG was missing media coverage when he was in his prime.
The Poweredge was an exception, I wish there where more of TG from that period.

kf melon is sick! Not sure I've ever seen that power edge interview. Is it me or does the interview sort of abruptly end? tg56chrome.jpg has that peach coloured text that's next to impossible to read and then it just ends?

That first scan... TG Thrasher cover at Wallows? sick! Years before my time.

keith, I have a bad feeling a left out a scan. I'll check when I get home.

whoops!

Thanks for updating the interview with the missing page. What year was it? He's talking about hix next pro Powell board having an upturned nose so it must be pretty close to right before Real started?
