chrome ball incident #614: death trip

This guy can kill anything and could give two shits if you know it or not.

Underappreciated all-terrain destroyer, Alan Petersen.

Anyone know what this dude is up to these days? Last I heard he lives in Australia...

this dude is so fuckin rad... another atv legend up there with cardiel et al... haha i met this dude a few times. nice guy. first time was at a consolidated demo on cape cod mass in the summer of 94'. i sprained my ankle there and was sitting about a block away near a convenience store all bummed out and out of nowhere alan comes up an sits beside me and is all 'hey, you ok man?'. i kinda tripped out by the fact he even approached me and gave a shit. anyways, we talked and he told me to give him a ring at consolidated if i was ever out there. so my buddy and i, during one of our road trips to nor cal, gave him a ring while in santa cruz... he was all 'yeah, you dudes should come by the warehouse and skate'. we were stoked! we got there and he was the only one there... i guesss he was living there at the time. we skated the small vert ramp they had and he fuckin killed it while we were doing shitty rock n rolls and fs grinds haha. never seemed condescending at all. after sessioning for a while he sold us a few decks and invited us to go shoot pool where we met up with doug seanz(sp?) and a few other dudes... honestly it was a really cool night i was prolly like 18yrs old and those dudes were a couple of yrs older and WAY more rad but were totally cool. i just like and respect people who are obviously talented as fuck and are still down to earth. AP... cool dude

It's all good chops, I almost didn't even wanna mention it knowing that was probably the case. Also forgot to mention how rad that qp fly-out to b/s tail on the rail is!

Saw Alan, Karma and Jesse Paez skate in the summer of '94 at Romford in England. My memory is of this big ol' horrible, red metal funbox with transitions so steep nobody really touched it. (There's a photo of Jason Dill ollieing its hip in TWS Jan '95). AP ollied the whole damn thing just cruising about the park, no big deal. Blew my mind and made me realise that it's the quiet guys - not the big names - who are often the ones to watch.

Sick one. When's the Karma kit coming out?

This is not at all reliable, but I live in Sydney and have heard from a few people that he lives in Queensland with his wife and he is a postman, or something to do with the mail. But apart from that he never pops up in Australian mags or internets, and no one I know has ever seen him skating when they've been to Queensland. It's difficult to imagine that someone who could do legit stalefish would ever just get over it.

Tully.

i kind of like those puma pro model shoes he had.

i was randomly at derby park when he frontside 180'd the gap. or he was wearing the same thing the day i saw him do it as he was in the ad or mag shot! i think this was in 1999. he skated that place really well. funny thing: he was trying to do a 360 flip on the sidewalk section just rolling and couldn't make one. later, i saw a shot of him doing it over the gap. guess he was just designed to go big!

best backside ollies in the biz!!! one of the gnarliest gaps I witnessed was sugarhill fresno late 90's f/s ollie from qu. pipe over both the gap and bank ramp and into the next qu. pipe. about a 16' transfer so gnarly definitely one of my all time favs...

yeah the dude is/was super gnarly and just pretty much quit to get married and live in OZ somewhere. i dont even think he skates anymore, at least that's what i heard last time i talked to leticia @ consolidated. oh well...

AP really was one of those ATV guys. Seen him at a few contests over the years and he was always going fast and big. pretty crazy.

I remember a Marseilles article from a Thrasher a few years back. Might've been the Year Tony won it, not sure. But he does the highest fucking ollie I think I've ever seen. No grab and it's fucking mind blowing. Might be the issue with his huge Method on the cover too, not sure. Anyone remember this?

The first deck I ever bought was an Alan Petersen SMA with a little kid playing with an airplane on it. I hooked it up with some black spray painted gullwings screwed on with some hardware found in a mason jar. Not waxed so I had to tighten the bolts up all day. I think I got that in 1990? I learned to ollie on it! AP is the man!
