chrome ball incident #610: skywalkin'

There are certain things that always come up with posts involving Shorty's riders... and you can damn well double that in the case of Peter Smolik. Be it the "dope dancing", those velcro signature pants, the vicious Shorty's backlash, the light-up boards, what happened after Fulfill... the list can go on and on.

And I welcome any and all observations and critiques you may have. However, I am feeling a bit under the weather today and am opting to both acknowledge and skip all that shit in order to just get to the fucking point... which is this.

Knew a guy who rocked Smolik Athletic Gear pants velcro'd to his O.D.S. shoes. Damn, those were crazy times.
Always dug that Fulfill the Dream part though. The photographer(w/ ponytail & Barfoot tee) who misses the back tail b/s flip in the beginning always made me laugh. Dude just freezes when he realizes what just happened.

One of my alll time favorite parts!
That song is so ridiculous, I always think about it when I skate even now.

I always felt "Fulfill the dream" was "Video Days" of a slightly different era. My era 98 - 99. No dout Shorty's was cool. But your right after Fulfil..., "Guilty" just didn't do it. Some reason.

Aight Chrome Ballers need your help. Real talk, what became of Shorties? Was their team really cursed. It seemed as though that team was cursed. Everyone was plagued with drink/drug/legal problems. What went wrong? Was it, as the Specials said "too much too young"?

I also hated the whole swagged out Shortys thing. The team, like their boards, was soft as hell. Give me Menace/All City any day. Them dudes weren't playin.

PS free, no bad Concrete Park at 11th & Rhode ISland in DC is open. Might could need to stop worrying about my guitar hand and school those kids w/a couple of K-grind shuvit outs. Bong bong.

He is a amazing skater, but his part in Guilty is really funny. If you edited out "The Federalz" amateur rap video then its a good part, and not so hysterical. My friends and I used to laugh so hard at that part.

Seems like Shortys kind of played itself out. After a while, it just didn't have the same appeal it once had. I remember Guilty coming out and seeming so cheesy. I didn't watch any of it until several years later.

However, Fulfill the Dream was undeniably influential on my group of friends when we were growing up. In retrospect, Smolik had a trick that was quite ahead of his time. It was cool seeing all the dudes in the Lakai vid doing slide-to-slide variations, but man, Smolik was rockin that almost a decade before.

As for the individual team members, I used to see flicks of Aaron Snyder pop up here and there. I think Brandon Turner is with Smolik on Skate Mafia, Sammy Baptista is on Turf with Mike York. Olson seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth, along with Jessie Silvey and Toan Nguyen.

Big ups to Smolik though. Dude is sick.

Nice post, Chops.

Always one of my top 5...for anyone that thinks he fell off, check out his part from "Let's Do This" a few years back. Always loved the little kid yelling out, "You're gonna miss right there..." during the posed-out boardslide on the Frankie Hill rail. Too many epic tricks, great post.

Never got into Shorty's. I liked their bolts though lol

Dude definitely has some crazy skill and also some crazy exaggerated arms.

Out of all the FtD guys, I actually dig Aaron Snyder the most.

Good post Eric- lav it.When I look on skating today and before mentioned, Peter Smolik was way ahead of his time in the late 90`s.Good ripper, super tech and unique style, you either dig or hate.
First time Smolik came on the map in europe was his apperance in the "Listen" video. Good partin there. By the way DONGER has some serious bangers in there. Just to mention that on a sidenote, after he heas been a random topic in the comments lately.
Have a good one all you Chrome Ballers and Eric keep up this blog- It`s always what skating is to me since 1987- Quality, fun that never stopped.

Got a Smolik deck as a gift in Germany. About a week after I got back, it broke.

Shorty's had there flaws, but a roster that kept them in the front of the pack at the time. I was pretty young and a punk, so they fit me perfectly.

What's up holmes. You know I am digging this one.
