chrome ball incident #502: face melter

"If I could choose a career, it would be his. You have the legendary video part when you're a kid... then you have the legendary video part you're in your mid-20's... then you have the legendary video part when you're 30. It's like the 3 stages of Guy so far." -Gino

Amazing. That's the one word I'd use to describe Guy. He's always been at the top of my list of those dudes. He's always been THAT dude to me. Throughout his entire career he's always done things that have just blown me away. The finesse, the creativity, the way he makes it look like it's effortless when you know that was one of the hardest tricks ever done. Something you've never seen anyone do before. And from being a prodigy to the top of the food chain in the skateboarding world to rock bottom and practically out of skateboarding, Guy was still the one that everyone waited for and hope would come back. And when I heard about grown men crying after watching his part at the premiere, it made sense to me. And after finally seeing his part, it all made sense again. And I remembered why he was the best to me. There were other guys that paved the way before him, and the next generation is gonna take what he's done and build on it. But no one will ever do it like Guy. Once in a lifetime. Glad I was able to witness one of the best ever do his thing.

Great response JayCee. Really enjoyed the words of praise. I agree. And also Great quote by Gino chops. Fantastic layout on this one. Lots of unseen stuff. The triple ads with the 3 sequences were pretty rad. Real stoked on Rudy lately as well.

So stoked yet again - I second that great response from JayCee - good words bro. Also, I've not seen some of these pics before - slept on them somewhere in time.

That bluntslide kickflip transfer in the Rudy, Guy, Ronnie sequences is incredible. I was floored when I first saw that.

Amazing post on the "guy" who did it all first. One of the most innovative skaters ever. Hands down always has and always will be my favorite skater of all time.

i used to have his tws check out on my wall as a kid. back lip that gold rail. his birthday was 2 months before mine. i remember thinking he was a little older than me; so it made me not feel so bad about my skills. like i could catch up to him in those 2 months. what a joke!! i totally forgot about that tailslide blunt transfer kickflip. so rad. here i was thinking koston had invented that 6 months ago. nope! was that footage ever in anything? keep up the great work mr. chops

I don't think that tailslide/bluntslide kickflip transfer was ever in a video. One of the most "holy shit" tricks of that time and still is to this day. Also, I don't recall ever seeing any of tricks from the lockwood spread in anything either. Thought I read something a ways back that Socrates was working on some sort of anthology project will all his old footage. Did that ever come out? Was hoping all that stuff would be in the World Vid box set, but they didn't include any of the guys who left for girl. Then the girl set came out and didn't have anything from that era....Another amazing post Chops!

Go figure - I just happened to randomly pop in Fully Flared last night too and was thinking about how epic his part was considering how far off he had fallen prior to filming for that video. But I guess that's why he's Guy. If anything, that part was the final bit of proof to completely seal the deal - he is THE legend of this era of skateboarding.

Hey Pic, I think the Koston fakie 5-0 fakie flip was an opener in 411, though it may have been a different one/different angle.

I love that swtich back tail photo. Saw it before I'd ever seen Paco, like late 90's, and tripped right out.

My favorite of all time. His comeback was so amazing. So glad he's back in skateboarding. The Epicly Latr'd on him (and Gino) was such a great series.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I don't really get starstruck too often but I got admittedly geeked when I saw Guy hanging out at Maloof last month.
Didn't get to see him skate but just to turn around and see him standing there unexpectedly was pretty craze.
And yes, he truly is that one dude from our generation...

Well said JayCee!

Guy's always been one of my favourites dating back to Ban This. Then his 3 full parts with sporadic footage in between. Definitely legendary status. When I first watched his Fully Flared part, it brought a tear to my eye. And then his Epicly Later'd totally blew me away.

I can honestly say his style, to me, isn't one of the best but his contribution to the innovation and progression of street skating during the early 90's is where he really shines.

Where is that Gino quote from? Gino CBI interview!?

If memory serves me right, Geoff Dermer's in the background of the sw bs tail at Pots. Jody Morris photo! So sick...

I'll also add that the sw crooked grind on that rail... amazing shot.

What the hell!? Where did that fs flip into the hill come from? I like that Skateboard mag Guy/atiba article especially after hearing he threw up doing that fs flip transfer. Axion ad is dope! My favorite era of him right there. Amazing amazing.
