#485: i am ron allen's father

"people are always asking me when I'm gonna quit... I'm always asking them when are they gonna start"

a) huge ollies, nosepicks, nose manuals, airwalks, double flips... and those questionable one-foots

b) pajama pants and knee pads on the shin

c) boardslides that often resulted in cheers from passersby and/or wino spit-takes

d) lava lamps, padded rooms and no scratch graphics

e) hooked-up most of your favorite east coast legends when they weren't shit

f) life, fun, adi, creation... i think i forgot a couple

g) must've ollied that same green driveway for a decade

h) has provided the soundtrack to several classic video parts

i) I seriously think he's damn near fifty and still rips

j) legendary status

Great post.. Ron was one of my favorites when I started, and still is a dude who gets me stoked to go skating.

I saw Ron at the Berkeley park a few months ago. He's still ripping and it was really awesome to see such a lifer. And although those one footed ollies did kill me, props for everything he's done throughout his career.

Irie!

yeah... he had the funkiest one footers ever. No wonder he needed knee protection.

Dude definitely killed it though in those two H-Street videos and the shared part with John Diego in the Life video was solid with that song...

That one ad with the fs 180 fakie 50-50... talk about old! Transition from "Tony Magnusson Designs" to just H-Street. I remember the first H-St board I ever saw was a Ron Allen... pretty sure it's was the graphic in that ad. It was one of the older guys in my town, this amazing dude Chris, who always inspired me to learn new tricks and try different shit. Months later, the city was flooded with H-Street gear. It still blows me away how a company seemed to come out of nowhere with two of the best videos of all time...

I got to skate with Ron & Sheffey a couple times in Michigan when I was a kid. He was the most down to Earth guy & shredded anything in his path! He would blast huge ollies onto full size picnic tables like he was ollieing up a curb. Total sickness! Great post!

Much respect to Ron, one of the most underrated skaters of that era. I had at least two of those no-scratch graphic decks.

I'm late on this post but it's good to see some vintage RA. Really looks about the same as current RA. Always fun to see classic Oakland spots long gone.
Let us not forget Heaterz and Energy. He might have started a few others, too.
And you can forget about "skating into your 30s", Ron is in his mid-40s! Looks the exact same. Dude is ageless.
