chrome ball incident #407: definition of ill

the chrome ball incident is proud to present the perennially slept-on, john igei.

the self-described "struggling am" was a decade deep in the industry before western edition finally turned him pro. much deserved.

dude kills it.

big up to andy stone.

That guy was on point. Tech with style. Watching his parts makes me want to skateboard. That's what I like about C.B.I.- it's nice to see guys like John Igei get some appreciation.

great post. I was waiting for that fakie hardflip photo and it was the ender! I haven't seen much new stuff from him, but I wouldn't put him in the past tense just yet.

Not the past tense at all. Saw him killing it in new york the last 2 summers on the low. Nicest k/f back 5-0's in person, he looks like he could do it in his sleep. I consider him one of those pro's you have to witness in person, skills are so controlled, it's a special thing to see. What a great career too, humble the whole time, letting the skating do the work.

I take it back, then. That guy is on point.

"Definition of ill" is the perfect title for this post. Igei's got such great style and yes - is way, way underrated.

Kapital from San Francisco? Nope. Unless it's from DC with a C, it just isn't right.

Skating in DC at the time and seeing Igei, Andy Stone, Chris Hall, Brian Tussi, Shef or Pep was the best. Each had individual east coast style and made you proud to be right coast.

Dude loves his switch. Only 3 reg footed pics in those ads.

Definitely sick. switch hard heel over the pier block is bananas.

LOL at his comparison between DC and SF.

Dopest skateboarder, definitely keeps it real. Always a treat to get a little snippet of footage from him.

I started skating back in 2000 and ollies blew my mind - just the fact that the board could stick to your feet without glue or any gimmicky garbage, which some people thought. It fascinated me.

Long story short, the pic of Igei ollieing off the cement hump was one of those amazing photos that showed me how stylish/worthwhile skateboarding is, and was one of my favourite pics along with Richard Mulder's b/s 180 nosegrind in front of a red brick wall that ran in Skateboarder. Thanks for posting this, it's great to see.

About the ollie picture. AGREED. It just made the new wallpaper on my computer. I wouldn't even care if he landed 90 and tick-tacked away 9 times, that's how dope that shit is. (I'm sure he landed perfectly though).
