chrome ball incident #404: supa star

Q: "Do you need a pillow?"
A: "People always ask me that."

Another one of those slick 90's upstarts whose career didn't last nearly long enough. One of the most stylish kids to ever put it down, Drake Jones.

Big up to my man, Rob E Beats. Go west, young man.

Why is that Pointer Grind scan so familiar?

yeah! Drake Jones!

I can't even remember him being on 23. How long did that last?

I always remember this footage of him switch 360 flipping the big 3 at EMB, cracking his board, going back up and pulling it off on the snapped board. So sick.

Might be my all time favorite skater--one of the greats!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK.
This post is so sick. There was a Drake Jones line in an old Transworld video at the pier, where he did a back 180 over a construction four legged thing, it was the sickest line I'd ever seen at the time as far as style goes, I just remember him standing out so much, with the jeans, crewneck sweatshirt and brown beanie.

I remember seeing this dude here in Hawaii with his lady when I was tour driving in Waikiki.

Think it was 1995, Real had just turned him pro and the trip was his present, dude was chilling on some vacation shit, didn't even bring a board with him and was stoked that somebody recognized him from skateboarding.

He was super nice and we talked for like 5 minutes, dude was real cool.
Cute chick too.

ANYWAY, some of the best 360 flips and backside flips ever put down, also kickflip backside tailslides.

Also, agree with Keith, switch 360 flip EMB big 3, broke board turned it around and did it next try, that shit was legendary.

I lost $40 to Drake playing dice once. I remember being really bummed cause $40 was a lot to me at the time. Our lives intersected a lot during the early/mid 90's. He introduced me to the owner of Experience when they first started and I ended up working for them and then after he got on Real I got a job working for them doing some filming for the first video. So I spent a good amount of time with Drake back then. Drake's a really mellow cat and a really good dude. Obviously his skating speaks for itself. I talked with him a couple of time while he was still the TM for Mystery. Awesome dude, amazing skater. Drake's left a good legacy for himself. I'm happy to see that.

Chops, I made it out west. When I got there everything was nobbed or torn down. By that time, I was a tourist.

Drake Jones SON! When I started skating I had two videos, mouse and church of skatan who farted. His part part was so dope to me. Would watch over and over, I would seriously try to do every trick like the dude. Best style ever!

Oh Drake, I will owe you forever.
Living in SF in the early 90's... Roommates and I went down to do laundry one day, middle of the week, middle of the afternoon. Put the stuff in the washer and went across the street to have a cup of coffee and wait.. Friend even asked 'aren't you afraid of leaving your stuff there', 'no' I scoffed, 'done it 100 times, it's the middle of the day!'!.
Low and behold my shit was GONE when I went to check... and I mean I lost EVERYTHING but I what I was wearing, 3 loads full of shit.
Called Markus and Jessie (old friends from CO and Drake's roommates) to see if they had any donations as they both worked for DLX at the time... Showed up and Drake gave me 2 big ass trash bags full of brand new clothes. Told him it was too much... But he insisted saying I was never a jocker... Had never asked for a board or shoes or anything.
Turned my shit filled day into a brand new wardrobe...
Thanks for life Drake, good things come to good people... Hope you fucking read this someday.

I had a sick Real Drake Jones board with a butterfly on the bottom. I focused it on day two. My friends laughed but that was my whole allowance for the summer, blown.osecti
