chrome ball incident #263: strong cup o' joe

always on the humble but always in the mix... and always with the sickest graphics. writer, poet, coffee aficionado and sick boy turned deluxe honcho, jim thiebaud.

used to be so stoked on this dude that i started drinking coffee at age 13... holding out on that whole twitter craze though.

but i'd still rock a pair of those old school ellesse joints.

Fully backing Jim. There definitely needs to be a re-release of his first REAL board. Classic.

Top notch.

yes! Thiebaud is definitely one of the nicest pro's I've ever met (in Toronto for a Real Demo.)

There was so much hype about him back in the SMA days (Natas the pro, Thiebaud and Stranger the ams). He must has sold a crap load of those SMA comic strip boards. Loved his first Real board. Rocked a lot of those and the Guerrero TG's.

Now that I think back, graphics stuck around for a while back then. Shapes with the same graphic would change from shipment to shipment. I noticed this quite a bit with Real and H-Street boards. Not so much with Powell or Santa Cruz boards.

Nice...I read his book. Should have held on to that!

We used to pick up those Ellesses at Value City for $19.99 a pair. I wish I'd stashed a pair away, but what the hell did I know back then. @ JRog - Jim T wrote a book?

@Beancan: yeah, actually I think he wrote more than one. I dont even remember where I got it. I think Pacific Drive skateshop had a few copies...

thanks guys.

tc, didn't liversedge use the hanging klansmen for one of his first graphics? i know jeremy fish flipped that design a little bit ago. regardless, a reissue is definitely needed.

keith, i also got a chance to meet thiebaud at a real demo in late '90 with t.g. and sanchez. dude was so nice... he handed out his poetry 'zine (that through joint at the bottom) and when i went to get his autograph, he drew this huge smirking face beside his name. it was so ill that i was just speechless... come to think of it, i probably looked like an asshole cause I couldn't even muster up a "thanks", i just looked at it and walked away.

what's up rogers.

yeah, it seemed like thiebaud used to write a good bit. i know he a bunch of different 'zines out... i kinda do remember him and vallely putting stuff out.

jim is one of the best ever.

he did a proper book called "do the distance" and another zine type thing called "scrambled eggs and calfs brains"

Jim was my boss for a little while back in the early 90's. He did always skate in fresh kicks. He had frontside 180 fakie manuals on lock!

I always liked Thiebaud's style. I learned varial kickflips from his part in Speed Freaks.

I used to love those Ellesse shoes he and Tommy had in the ads. I bought two pairs, blue/white in Spring of 1989 at TJ Maxx.
