sick! no comply down stairs in a sweater vest!

Too bad there's no footy of him anywhere. I'm not even sure if I've ever seen any video of him ever. maybe in some old 411's

I've got an old interview with him in RAD magazine circa 1990. There's some great pics, i'll try and scan them in. I thought I was the only that liked this guy.

I remember that no comply being in an early millenium transworld. Down the masonic steps i believe.

Nerded out and bought a sweater vest at the thrift store inspired by Nick Jensen and unconsciously by Mr. Evans. Haven't worn it yet.

Evans was definitely in some early 411s, I clearly remember a fakie or nollie inward heelflip over a hip, maybe a switch tre; probably in a World Report.

I'm sorry to ask this again... but do u remember catching the short story Simon wrote about being a pro? It was one page with the background of an Etnies shoe with a gigantic ollie hole. It was featured in TWS around the time the Good Stuff article popped up. Thanks anyways! Great post.

Cool post-Brits representing. But, a Danny Way or Colin Mckay TWS pro spotlight would be a treat - gotta love the vert too.

Growing up skating in and around London in the late 80s, early 90s, you couldn't help but bump in to Si Evans at Southbank, Harrow, Pioneer, Ewer Street, Slam, etc, etc. Always an innovator trickwise, he also was a thoughtful writer and contributor in RAD magazine too. Maybe not the highest profile ex-pat, he was just as influential (certainly earlier) than Penny, Rowley, Shipman, etc. Always stoked to see him doing so well in his chosen path.

Although without a traditional full video part he did have a fair bit of footage in Mike Manzoori's 'Sound and Vision' and cropped up in 411's London Metrospective in issue #1. Best way to see Si Evans footage is to grab the Rollin Through The Decades DVD, an amazing documentary on UK skateboarding.

Carryout - Was that the story where he mentions not having skated a handrail for 8 years or something? I vaguely remember something like that.

That "good stuff" is amazing. Perfect example of personalized trick selection. Sweater vests are rad, I remember a few people rocking them after Gino wore one in "Yeah Right", haha.

hairfarmer- yea i think you might be right. the story also mentioned how other pros have board dispensers in their bathroom.

sweater vests... hahaha

Yo, he had some mini footage at the end of Useless Wooden Toys...

Also here is a sequence of a 180 nose blunt/nose stall over a spine.

please do, jason. i'd like to see that.

carryout, sorry homie... i do remember mike manzoori doing something like that but don't quite remember the evans one you're talking about (which means I'll probably end up finding it tomorrow)

platinumseagulls and hairfarmer... totally guilty of a gino-inspired sweater vest.

anonymous, give me a minute with the danny way... i'm still in the doghouse with a few people after that muska post and don't want to antagonize the situation. haha... and let's not even get into simon woodstock. maybe on april fool's day or something... who knows.

thanks paul and all my uk/sidewalk heads.

hit him up, jaycee. its always cool when i find out that a pro that i've done a post on has actually ended up seeing it.

good lookin' out, nob

I was really pleased when Google alerts pointed me at this site. Skating introduced me to a lot of astonishing creative people over the years and Simon was one of the greatest.
If sweaters are as significant as his skating, here's another 'behind the scenes' glimpse of his lifestyle back in the day.

Hi, I've had a special request to edit Jaycee's comment. Jon's stories are always good and I wanted to keep this one but also have to honor this favor... so here is Jaycee's comment in slightly-edited form. cheers

JAYCEE:
YES! My Boy Simon! I had the pleasure and honor of spending time with Simon both as the TM for Experience but also a friend. Simon definitely flew under the radar as a lot of people have mentioned already. But that's just how he was. If you ever had the pleasure of skating with Simon and seeing him in person, you'd see some very precise technique going on.
Simon was always into writing and art. I don't know how many people know this, but Simon became an incredible artist. He's had art shows all around the world and the SF Moma actually bought a piece or two of his. Last I heard, Simon was living in London and doing art. As a matter of fact, I think I'll try and track him down through some friends and see what he's up to. If I get in touch with him, I'll send him a link to this page. I think he'd be pretty stoked to know that there were people out there that appreciated his skating. I definitely am.

Here is a crazy link to a Simon video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dy7Cg36qfY
Some weird 'Unsane' video clip by Thomas Campbell... Look for Simon at 2:17. The strangest thing about this clip is that I shot it and I have no clue how it got in to this video. I was back in CO and laying in bed one night with MTV on. This video came on and I shot up like hell fire when that clip was shown... I so remember Simon missing the flip for the 20th time trying to film a line at Wallenberg and freaking the fuck out.

Anyways, Simon was always a super cool guy. Best story was...
We had a foosball table and always had folks around for night drinking and such... one night all the crazy english boys were over and playing on the table... Simon, Shippy, Ed Loftus, and Femy... Not one of us understood wtf was being said... They were chatting it up like it was a premier league game and speaking english.. but the queen's english... haha, not a fucking clue..
